Vinyl Vs CD

After buying a few vinyls today, and listening to the old fart syndrome '...love the crackle when the needle is put down etc', I'm wondering what is it that people prefer here.

Well... Vinyl sounds better, but CD lasts longer.

i prefer CDs (more versatile and easier to transport) but i love my vinyl and would never part with it!

the sound on vinyl is much more fuller. None of that compressed shit. You can hear all the different instruments. As we all know record players are less convient than cd's , so i buy more cd's.

Vinyl. CD's have vinyl beat in terms of convenience and I guess have techincally better sound, but I just prefer the old fashioned way.

There's something nice about putting the record on and watching it turn (no I'm not stoned ) plus bigger sleeves means more artwork.

CD's aren't all they're cracked up to be anyway-they invariably get scratched or broken. Though I wonder with the rise in digital music how long it'll be before CD's are obsolete?

How do you know?! What's the oldest CD you have? They've only been around for 20 years. I have 100s of 12" singles & vinyl albums(some from the 60s)and they still sound good, with more dynamic reproduction - quality deteriorates slowly if you use too heavy a pickup but avoiding scratches/warping is easy if you're careful and DUST before play CDs way more convenient but comparisons with any NO 12" and eg SINGLES, no contest CDs prone to damage anyway without care, borrowed CD from library had bits of bread left by previous user in the case - and reason it wouldn't play was something like marmite stuck to the disc! H

I almost only listen to cd. having said that, I do have a substancial new order vinyl and others collection.

Vinyl it just possible may however be the better long term music storage system. I've heard that cds may have a limited life span of 20 years or so. Geez I hope not, some of mine are almost that old.

Yeah,that's my only concern which has stopped me buying any more vinyl:the space they take up,I can't play them in the car,and not so easily transportable. But I won't part with them.The sleeves are great,and the sound.... Play FINE TIME on 12"vinyl then CD...vinyl wins!

Stopped listening to vynyl for years when CDs arrived.But when i started going back and playing them i found they really do sound better (if it's a good deck,obviously)

Ceremony 7" is the perfect example.The sound of that song on the Singles CD is poor compared to the vynyl version (been many a thread about that already ,i know).

Dropped my 12" of Krafty recently though.Big bite-shape area out of the outer edge means i can't play the first minute or so of either side:(

I loved vinyl but it was a pain in the arse. They got scratched really easily, especially when you played them pissed. I've got a copy of Happy Mondays' Pills, Thrills and Bellyaches that's got so many scratches on it, it sounds like I tried to remix it. They look more impressive than CDs though.

VINYL records then criminal ones are the best!:D

The word is quantised, or for a less technical description, digitised.

I love viny cracklings... and i think oit has a stronger, deeper sound. But I have no NO vinyl - on stuff my mum and dad have, like J Cougar and stuff. Oh, my brother has a sotn single which he wont let me have. He reckons hes a bigger NO fan than me because he saw them live and has GR. Even though I have the entire catalogue - he thinks because hes senn them live that hes better.

Does he like the boots? Especially the Hooky & Barneyisms? Does he get teary-eyed with nostalgia? I bet he does and is jealous as all fook that you've got some of these gems for nowt.

I always look to see if there's a vinyl copy of a release first, I don't mind buying a CD copy for the portability factor with certain artists.

Yes, moving all that vinyl can be a drag, especially up stairs, though I've been lucky in that regard, never more than a second story house here.
