Gorillaz Gig

Went to see the Gorillaz play Demon Days in Manc last nite. I didn't really know what I was expecting but I must say it was one of the best gigs I've been to. Damon & co pulled it off. It was a strange gig though-felt almost like a play. The animation was projected on a screen over the stage while the band stayed mainly in the shadows, except for the guests who came out, did their parts and went off again. Dirty Harry and Dare were brill. The only downside was the arsehole security who harassed anyone who tried to get up and dance.

My mates been working on the animation for the Gorillaz performance at the MTV awards, apparently the budget only stretches to one song. Theyre looking for sponsors at the moment for a full tour cos the projection gear costs about quarter of a million just to hire. But apparently its incredible, no back projected stuff, full 3d animated characters on stage. I could go into the in and outs of how it works but I dont want to ruin it for you and it`s also slightly over my head.

The Website claimed that this 5 day thing is a one off and the only time you'll see the Gorillaz 'live' so to speak. but i bet they'll do a tour for the money aspect of it.

Of course they'll do a tour. Damon Albarns ego will surely demand it. I think they're crap anyway.

I think Gorillaz are ace, and Blur too. Id like to see them live. Id say they will do it. Its not worth it just to do 1 GIG, most of the cost has probably already gone in anyhow.

No Dennis Hopper, they played his monologue but it got kind of drowned out by the band. Shaun was there, got huge applause and security ran around telling everyone to sit. My friend almost got tossed out arguing with one of the guards. Pretty much everyone who guested on the album was there though, Neneh Cherry, De la Soul, Ike Turner.

It'd be cool to see them bring this out on tour, but it would be pretty tough to do cost wise.

Ryder was the absolute worst part of DARE, the same way he was the worst part of Good Together, and he only had one verse in the entire thing!

Never thought I'd disagree with that! Only recently began to accept their stuff thanks to "Feel Good Inc" being a grower. Then heard "Dare", bought "Demon Days". Several listens later I'm very impressed. Shocked... but impressed. Really like "El Manana" & "Fire Coming Out Of The Monkey's Head" too.

Probably go over well. Quite a diverse fan base right now. Seems like a huge cast to be trucking around the US of A. Insurance would kill em because of Ryder.

I hear that Talking heads were offered a pile of cash to reform, but Byrne wasnt having it (top bloke) - so they got Shaun Ryder in to do vocals.

Anyone know about this, or is it bullshit!

No. Do the sessions exist though? I know that 2 of the talking heads produced some Happy Mondays.

I really admire Byrne. Growing old gracefully. Unlike........... certain other musicians of a similar vintage

just seen em on the mtv awards in europe. very good indeed,about time something was done with the whole rock n roll gig format. im not saying that this is what should have been done but i enjoyed it all the same.
