i really want catch the sun to be brought back live by the doves.ive only seen it done once,in a park in bolton,radio one's big sunday in year 2000 which is when i first became aware of doves..was wierd because i only went there to take my daughter to see fucking mel c. haaaaaaaa

Each album has been a grower. I got the 1st album in 1999 on the strength of seeing them play 2 songs (one of them was catch the sun) on some seriously good Spanish TV show that I forget the name of. I then happened upon them at a festival, and really began to explore the album. I listened to that album straight through at least twice a week for 2 years. When the last broadcast came out I was really disappointed after the 1st listen, but its now one of my favourite all time albums. Likewise, I thought the new one was pants, but am getting into it song by song. At the moment I’m really getting into the 2nd half of it – songs like “one of these days” and “the storm”.
I definitely think its time for a bit of a musical change for them. Continual evolution is alright, but they could try something a bit experimental – just for the change. Their sound is great, but just needs something a bit more interesting next time around I think.
Doves are one of the few decent “bands” still knocking about. They are really great live. I’m going to see them on mid winter in Dublin, which will be my 4th gig of theirs this year. There aren’t many bands Id do that for. Id recommend anyone to go see them live. Id also say that most of their best songs aren’t released as singles. I for one, think that songs like “there goes the fear” are – by Doves standards – not all that great.
