the first leg of the Aussies quest to qualify for the world cup finals as usual comes down to a 2 leg playoff against a south american country. will the aussies win both legs or just one as usual and go down again in glorious defeat. the last time australia was represented at a world cup finals series was in 1974.

whatever. there are already enough things to commiserate about on Nov 11.
They were in full flight last time we played them for a World Cup spot.
Spat on, threatened and abused by their supporters and their players milked the fouls to the extreme.

I think that FIFA should give the Australasian (spelling?) continent an automatic place in the finals for the winner of the groups, not really a world cup if all continents aren't represented.

But I can understand other countries' reluctance to grant a permanent spot for Australasia. It'd basically be a free ticket to every cup for the Socceroos from now on.
We're more than happy to merge with the Asian Confed but they've resisted letting us in. Think it'll go through eventually and put a stop to this Mickey Mouse route we have to take each time.

1-0 win for Uruguay. Aussies got it all to do now, especially as the Uruguayans will resort to every dirty trick in the book to preserve their lead.
i think if the Auusie crowd knew how to sing then it could frighten the Cheatin bastards. but they don't. even though the crowd will be 80,000.

they beat Uruguay after extra time on pens to advance to Germany. Put the beer on ice Germany, the Aussies are coming - - and make it very cold.
