I watched these films over the last few days and they are all shit

Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy (Marvin isn't a patch on the original Robot from the TV series which itself was miles better than the film)

League Of Gentleman Apocalypse (the TV series was fantastic but the film is boring)

Ring 2 (pants)

Sorry to be negative but that's my opinion.

Sin City was pretty good though:thumb:

Did you notice the original Marvin in the queue?

I liked the film. As Douglas Adams said, the radio show is different to the book, which is different to the TV series, which is different to the film.

But, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it.:thumb:

It's when they have to queue up to get the forms filled out. Arthur does a double take when he sees him. Priceless.

And of course the original Arthur Dent pops up as well. Did you see that?

Was he the last improbable thing? I thought that was Doug himself.

Loved the movie, tho yeah marvin stank. Also I thought they sort of mangled some of Douglas' best language, and cut some lines and scenes short before their full "adamyness" could be felt. I ADORED the vogons.....isn;t there something in one of the books (been a long time) about those lovely friendly crabs that are meant to be one of the most pleasant and trusting lifeforms around, but the universe stuck them on vogsphere? Maybe I've read/heard/seen/etc so many version I've just written my own in my head.

My votes for shite movies? All 3 versions of The War Of The Worlds that came out this year.

  1. Tom cruise....good fuck that's bad.....WOTW? why not call it "lassie", or "a night to remember" or "ghandi" cos it had fuck all to do with anything but a screaming wee girl that was a charcater invented purely to do just that and nothing but that!!!!!?!?!???!
  2. C Thomas Howell version. While this version bears little resemblance to the book at all (the martians are hilarious and their Tripod fighting machines have 6 legs....I'll go thru that again for anyone who's asleep...TRIpod...SIX legs), it does feature a really good take on the section of the story set in the ruined house with the Curate, and has a stab at a modernisation of the Artillieryman and his wacky schemes. all in all, if there's been a major disaster, and the news is full of unpalletable images. this might be wort watching while you eat.
  3. Pendragon version....this makes Plan 9 from outer space seem like 2001. I had SUCH high hopes because they swore they'd stick to the book...trouble is they used 1904 movie making techniques too.....I'll give you the briefest rundown I can contain myself to of it's crimes.... Effects make any early 70's episode of Dr who look stunning accents are fucking atrocious acting is worse there are mobile phone masts in clear shot as "wells" rides to leatherhead all the sequences in london are a day ahead, so "wells" brother meets the refugess from weybridge before the martians have even got there. Did I mention the effects and the acting? The ability to misinterperate the book was breathtaking too, "it was a day of a wildly fluctuating barometer", to you me and the rest of the world means unsettled weather....to the tards that made this....they down a barometer with the needles doing a pure Bermuda Triangle compass ruotine, at which wells exclaims "look the abrometer is wildly fluctuatin". The sent a team to the admiralty acrchives to research ironclad torpedo rams like "hms thunderchild", they got a perfect model, which is never at the same scale twice in 2 shots

i could sit here all night DON'T watch it, it foul, oh god, even if you love shite movies, don't.

Oh yeah, red weed on the 2nd day and the great trek through the night in "dead london" is a summer stroll in a field, and another thing......

i watched Bad Santa yesterday...

Thought it could be good with it holding the record for swear words in a film, but Billy bob thornton is fucking dump in it, i don't like him as an actor anyway but fuck me he can't do drunk at all.

I thought Hitchhikers was quite alright when I rented it a few weeks back. I've never read the books or seen the other interpretations, of course, so by that standard I'm "uncultured" :p

It's the little things like not mentioning that the scientists that approach deep thought are called majikthyse and vroomfondle, and leaving out the fact that "the huge yellow something hung in the air exactly the way that bricks don't"

And I dunno about anyone else, but once you see the TV show it's impssible not to read all the passages from "the book" in Peter Jones' voice.

THE RING 2 sucked. Just saw it the other day and I would say I was disappointed, but I didn't really expect much from it to begin with.

BUT I did just watch an old Japanese flick called ONIBABA directed by Kaneto Shindo)and liked it very much. I highly recommend it - it's not a horror movie per se, but it has a great sense of the macabre and is damned interesting too.

Have to agree with you on these Johnny. Hitchhikers film not a patch on the TV or radio series. Marvin was better in the TV series as well. As for LoG film, TV series was brilliant but the film pretty boring and shite. I nearly walked out of it.

Agree about Hitchhikers, but then it does feature the divine Zooey Deschanel, and so all is forgiven (and more).

Out of all of them Ring 2 sucked the most.If you've seen the first or the original Jap version what is there left to get spooked by?.It's just the same 'scary dead girl creeps out of the well towards the tv screen' bollocks. Was freaky the first time in the Japanese version and ok ish in the first American one but now it's just:sleep:

And how irratating is that bloody kid?!
