My daughter's prom is next Summer and the tickets for the gig are £30. OK, no problem. However, the dress she wants with the bag, shoes etc etc is going to set me back about £200. Transport is the issue; I've got a pink cadillac, a NYPD car with matching cop; a Chevrolet, a Big Yellow Taxi, a Horse & Carriage and now, a bloody Fire Engine & Crew? In my day, well, for one, there wasn't a prom, but can you adam & eve it? I'd have died for a limo (next door neighbours own one!!!), but no...... "everyone has a limo"! So, it looks like the fire engine at the moment....anyone any better ideas?

I seriously need to do something other than sit on NOOL all day, my mind is going. Even tho I alread read this thread, as it passwed by me in the list again, i read something VERy different as the title.

BTW, Wino, didn't I speak to you at JB's? you're not a yank...I'd have noticed I'm sure. School prom? Don;t tell me we're copying that crap?

What's next that scarey nazi thing round the old cloth every morning? then again we'd never go for that....proud? to be a Brit? oh that's just sick....would appear to be the prevailing attitude.

Me in an expensive rental tux, standing in a corner with all the other losers who couldn't get a date, while we watch the other people having fun on the dance floor......:banghead:

Yeah, that doesn't bring back horrible memories...

Better than going with someone who you broke up with weeks prior but were too stupid to find someone else.

Every weekend at the Parish yoofclub. No tux, just whatever my insane aunt thought a 13/14/15yrold should be wearing. not pretty, fortunately I got into NO and looking like a tit stopped bothering me, it work really well for Barney (if you recall, Hooky had style back then) :) I was (who the fuck am I kidding, AM) so ugly the chicks would dare each other to talk to me and stuff, sometimes even dare each other to kiss me. guy's gotta take what he can get :D

It beat any ideas of making advances out of me almost forever. Took me to get raped by an excessively horny 30something chick at the tender age of (don't you dare laugh you fucks) 26!! before I popped me cherry so lame was I at pulling after years of it being a non starter. At least if that crap only happens once, it can only traumatize, not train and condition like weekly doses .

I shouldn;t have admitted that should I?

You phone me a cab, I'll be at the cloakroom :(

Klingon Battle Cruiser would be a good way to arrive.

Imagine decloaking over the school WOW

Bollocks, that beats my suggestion, Mike. I was gonna suggest the Millenium Falcon, but the battle cruiser's cloak knocks the Falcon into a cocked asteroid.

I wanted to go to my prom, but the tickets were $125 a couple and I couldn't afford it. I asked my mother, but she said she didn't want to spend money on someone who dressed as weird as I did. And, I was going to go with a girl who was a friend and didn't go to my ghetto high school, but my mother thought she dressed too slutty, so she definitely wouldn't let me go.

Could your daughter pay for part of the cost, or does she have none of her own money?

$125 for prom tickets???? That's bullshit. Fuck that, Homey. I can have a real good time spending that elsewhere.

Prom is overrated. Unless you are stupidily in love it's just a regular dance. And who wants to be in love at that age? Lust yes, love no. Ask me I'll tell you. Married the girl I partied with the night of prom.

Give her a slap and tell her to stop being American.

Prom night? :wtf:

She'll want braces on her teeth next and start calling you 'Mommy'.

Yeah, yeah I know - but what can one do about it? It's the big thing around here at the moment, all the schools in Solihull try to 'outdo' each other on the venue and the cars and the dresses etc....... Not bad though; arrival like the Oscars along the red carpet, 3 course Dinner top hotel, disco - my leaving do at school was a crappy disco playing Cliff in the scruffy old dinner hall at school and it finished at 9pm.Mind you the advantage then was I knew all the places the teachers never looked so I could have a crafty smoke! And, my daughter doesn't have braces, but come to think of it, she has talked about the different types you can get now - ones with diamante or emerald stones etc etc, and she does occasionally call me Mommy, but then that's when she knows that I know she's been smoking out of the bedroom window. Kids eh?

Oh, and just to really amaze you - she has her History trip in February to help her with her coursework - Where? War Memorials in Europe? No. Washington & New York! Poor kids of today, don't they have it tough? I need another job.....

well, does your daughter prefer plush leather seats and crusing down the street or does she don't know what she's got till it's gone?

when i was 15 most of my saturday nights consisted of watching the saturday night movie.

as for the prom i think i got a lift from my mum, and just more my good suit. which if things keep going the way they are should fit me again in 6 months time. joke i think my weight has stabilised at more or less my ideal weight now.

I have 0 memories of the event. Last year at our reunion the chick I tool had to remind me that I took, whilst we shared some ...., anyway apparently there is photographic evidence. She now bats for the other team. no it has nothing to with me. this happened a few years later.

Our tiskets this year were 90. Didnt take a date - didnt invite one. It worked out that people only took someone if they were actually go8ing out with them, which was good. So you werent lonered or anything. All girld scholls are very understanding places.

It was rather a lot of money for 2 tickets, but everyone I knew in high school said to me, "You can't afford $75 for one ticket? Heck, I'm paying for both tickets, a tux, a limo, and a hotel room at the shore after." The dance wasn't being held at the high school, which would've made it much cheaper, but I don't have any qualms about going, although I;m still asked now and then, "Why didn't you go to your prom?" like it's something you had to do.

Prom is very over-rated...or so I was told. I skipped out on it :) I never got into that sort of thing in high school though, but I know a lot (most?) kids do.

Shouldn't her date being picking up a lot of the tab anyway? ;) maybe he doesn't believe in the good ol' traditional values..haha

oh well, that sucks for you

I went to my 'prom' (we didn't have prom here, it was more our grad night after the ceremony) without a date in a cool dress I got for $60 CND which everyone loved. The night was alright, everyone goes out into a this field outside of town to drink but it started to rain so I left early. turned out that later that night a nearby house caught on fire and burned down...though I did see them put the outhouse onto the bonfire before I left. :\ohwell:

Prom is just a way of reinforcing in kids the idea that excessive displays of money=self worth. I didn't go to mine, can you tell?

The pink cadillac seems cool though.
