The only album of theirs i ever listen to now is 24 Hour Party People.Funny, because that used to be the one album i couldn't stand.Time shows that their first album is the best.

i'm only a new convert so i'm gonna go with bummed thats the one i've listened too most so far
First two tracks on Squirrel are the finest two tracks they ever wrote, but Bummed is my favourite album, by a landslide. The right place, the right time. New Order were waning so needed something to follow and the Mondays were it.
Reckon I must be the only person alive to prefer Yes Please over Pills. Just thought the latter was them trying to woo the kids and the media, whereas Yes Please appeared when they were on their uppers. And it kept them there cos most people thought it was shit.

Bummed was the first for me. But 24h PPPWUCU is also good.
But if you ask me what Happy Mondays CD I listen most of life - I'll tell you - Hallelujiah!
S'gotta be Bummed, because it has the Hannett timeless production feel to it, and a fantastic inner sleeve, that reminds me of a bizarre aunt I had.
Pills n' Thrills was a fantastic adrenaline rush at the time, but sounds rather dated today.
Pills 'n' Thrills for me. Squirrel and G-Man... is a superb album that is very underrated. "Tart Tart" is one of their finest tracks. I quite like "Olive Oil", as well. Bummed is fantastic and Yes, Please!!!! isn't too shabby, but Pills 'n' Thrills has got the goods for me when it comes right down to it.

The album was out a year before I got my mits on it as a 14 year old, I had already seen them at the NEC with Neworder. This was the album I taped from John and had on a walkman at school, I remember a few people asking for a listen and asking "what the fuck is that" 
Pills n Thrills is fucking magic as is Squirrel, so it shows how highly I regard Bummed. Start to finish not one bad track. Special mentions to Performance and Do It Better.

This could make me public enemy numero uno round here but here goes. I don't like one little bit, Hannet's production on bummed. I think for the most part the entire album is a big blurry mess, not at all like his work for Joy Division and New Order which was the precise opposite. I've only ever listened to bummed off my original vynil, maybe it's just a shite cut (a rarity with Factory but not unheard of). I'll endeavour to download CD sourced versions and give it another go, but I dunno if it'll do any good.
For me, Pills and Thrills has some top tunes and sounds awesome, but I HAD to give it to squirell ad the g-man 24 hr party people plastic face carnt smile the white out. Tart tart, Kuff Dam, Freaky dancin, and 24hpp itself, I mean I'd be mad not to. it also contains the best Shaun line ever... "you said that jesus is cunt"

They opened with this at the Astoria in early 89, the gig which was filmed by Snub TV. Me and six of my mates, and you can pick each of us out quite easily if you see the footage of the audience, all bounding around in the mosh.

This is more or less exactly what I was going to write (so you're not the only one).
Bummed oozes with Hannet, and that's not a bad thing. So of the moment, and it was a good moment for me, so it's the best.
The last album was overshadowed by the stories of the recording antics (the man who's head exploded) but I thought the finished produce was really good. Stinkin Thinkin is an outstanding track.
Pills and Thrills is also a favourite album of mine and there's no way Squirel would ever be pushed out of my top fifty.
What often surprises me about the Mondays is that they were considerably better than their image would suggest. They had top people behind them and the right vibe. They were the band that Oasis have been trying to be ever since.

The Mondays are like NO, maybe why that's why wilson signed em. although neither band has(or at least had) any musical talent as viewed by the wider music buying world (no scales, notes, chord spelling, nothing), both had 2 thigs which ultimately work ouy better.
- The desire to play music in both bands was strong enough to make them work at it until they could do enough of the same things as people who'd learned the fucking retarded boring way (4 years of playing fucking Frere jacques and scales while an insane harpy yells at you would be most people's idea there).
and most importantly, and what sets Happy Mondays on the same shelf as NO.....
- The music was inside them to start with. If you don't have that, even if you spend your entire life busting your balls learning, the best you'll every be is an orchestral musician, a puppet, and organic sequencer track, wasting your life playing cover versions of tunes you've no say in.
A "real" musician, plays one note after the other because they have learned about scales and chords, and substitution and dominant resolution and all that stuff. There's not a member of No or HM that doesn't play one note after another cos it felt like the right note to play.
I actually think I damaged myself learning that crap, beacuase it somehow left me thinking I was shite compared to all these great proper players, and yet it had cost me my "innocence" for doing so. I found myself jamming over All day long the other day and thinking about fucking melodic modes. Put bass down, walk away :)
I did actually give bummed another listen BTW. And Although I do thill think it's a teeny bit muddy, what Hannet DID bring to it in spades, is cohesion as an album rather than a bunch of songs on a tape, which I fear Squirrell suffers from a litte.....probably because it IS just a bunch of songs on a tape.
I only have the HM greatest hits CD - which I enjoy. I am actually trying to track down a cd with freaky dancing and tart tart on it - I think this was their 1st release? I cant find it anywhere- out of print. Would anyone be willing to burn me a copy...? I have some bootlegs I could trade if you dont have them already. I would really appreciate any help here!

Tart tart and freaky dancing are my 2 fave Mondays track..I will email Mp3's to you when I get home in the morning I gootta go on nights now.Check your inbox tommorrow
