(bits of) Concorde
Come on Steve... It took off in Toulouse for the very first time...
And tell me why there was no English pilot on board... Lack of self-confidence ?
hey let's not fight about who did what, and remember what's important. there's fuck all built by yanks on it, and they were so scared of the thing, the just denied SST's could exist. And what do you know, but within 2 years of our bird being unjustly grounded (for which YOUR Govt. , via air france are more guilty than anyone, not the crash, the subsequent craziness), all the fucking yank companies are announcing their own SST's......like a legion of anti-competetive microsofts.
I really like the french, as I said, i only had the word of those french people I know here that yer a nation of miserable shites. Not so fond of some french food, but that's down to my mouth being brought up here, it just works that way, I think snails are dodgy, you're probably not trhilled at black pudding (oats with blood).
On the subject of concorde, rumours have reached me. At this point I have to remind you that if you (or anyone reading this) work for air france your contract means you can't read or participate in this thread. Rumours have reached me indeed, that could make me want to kiss/marry/buy drinks for every frog I know/meet/can find. Apparently AirFrance in their wisdom have elected to keep a single example of the concorde in taxiable condition, meaning it can be started and toured around for people to look at and delve back into their memories for when our countries were REALLY cool, and when it looked like mankind might be lookin at a bright future. Apprently this would take a certain number of hours a week, and various crews are rotated in to do the work, there is no shortage of volunteers. BUT the ACTUAL number of hours these crews are loggin is EIGHT times as mch as needed to keep her groundworthy, the extra hours are unpaid work. $DEITY be praised We let her down, but it looks like You guys may well be keeping her alive, REALLY alive, so that when those smug american gits show up with their new toy....you can wheel her out, and split the fucking sky in two with her, and remind them that between us we sorted it all out half a century ago (by the time they sort their SST's out it will have been that long).
Concorde means a lot to me. The fact it never had any children, and ultimately was disgraced for ONE lousy crash (when 747's fall out of the sky weekly and no one says fucking boo to boeing), is an icon for so much of what went out of the world as i grew up. All the really good ideas seemed to go away to be replaced with lame, mundane ones. I'm a child of the 70's, I thought I'd be going to work in 2005 in a personal chopper or hover car or jetpack, instead, it's a car much like the ones I knew back then, only a bit better. I thought we'd be on the moon, the tech's been there since apollo (or shortly afterwards anyway if you're one of those conspiracy mongs), but the americans got bored of it, and no one else could be arsed being different from the americans.
Humanity's constant desire to build bigger guns and use them has shattered my future.
Christ on crutches chasing the ice cream van....Where the flying fuck did all that come from.
The answer I should have given...
"fuck you, the cunt wouldn't have moved without the RR engines, rule britania, wogs start at calais, the empire on which the sun never sets. AND DID THOSE FEET IN ANCIENT TIMES......"
:D
