In oz our unleaded comes in 3 octane ratings, 91, 95, and 98. I am currently using 98. I'm not sure that i'm necessarily getting the claimed benifits of more power and increased fuel efficency. plus it costs 10c a liter more than standard.
Any thoughts.
that depends on the make/model/year of the car. Do you do most of your driving in town or the highway?

in canberra, but with the long distances ie 25 km to & fro work its highway.
the cheapest unleaded i can find. preferably at a mobil station as i have a mobil superpass.
Euro,and i guess oz has a different octane rating system here U.S. 87=91 there.It has more to do with compression of your engine, generally 8:1 to about 8.5:1 can use U.S. 87 or euro 91 which is 95% of cars.Some of the exotic or older US muscle cars have 10:1 to about 12 :1 compression ratio so they require US 93 or euro 98 octane.M ost of the newer cars with high compression, Porsche have computers that adjust the lean or richness of the fuel air mixture so you can burn lower octane without pinging your engine.Here in Florida the state agriculture commision tests the pump gasoline [petrol] at the pumps of various filling stations and more often than not when you pay for premium 93 they're selling a lower grade so you're getting ripped off.I drive my daily driver its a Diesel which case a centane rating instead.most people's cars don't need high octane fuel.However most people recomend adding Chevron techron every 3,000 miles if not using branded gas with a detergent.

Funny "what you're on about"???So I guess you didn't hit Bauhaus in Orlando?Anyway I grew up with the last guy that ran againt Bronson,last election,Dave Nelson.The concept of octane goes like this higher your engine compression number,the higher octane number needed.95% of cars run fine off 87 US/91 Euro.
What fuel do I use ??
Bananas, Pasta, Poached eggs, Rice, Flapjacks, Cornflakes, Coffee, Lucozade and gallons of Water.

Bad move as the shelf life of gasoline ie:petrol is 6 months w/o a preservative as stabill,I had a car I didn't drive for years and the gas turned to tar,screwing the fuel system totally..
luckily my local servo has almost always the cheapest petrol in Canberra. its even a major brand.

I often wish I had Doc Brown's Delorean from Back To The Future- then I could run it off the household rubbish...:car: seriously though, the 4 cylinder Nissan Pulsar I own isn't too exy to run and I try to use petrol discount vouchers from the 2 big supermarket chains(Coles/Woolworths)...if anybody's silly enough to leave them in thier trolleys after they've finished shopping I certainly won't say no to them!!!:D
