ha! sleep is overrated, i prefer two strong cups of coffee and some good records.

well me too, but after several days the old brain starts to crack up. I have 3 tunes for Community 2 loaded in cubase and can barely work the thing. this despite having been half man-half cubase since about 1992. It's actually got to the point where even TV is beyond me, all I can do now is talk bollox and read bollox. Thank $DEITY for NOOL.

I end up droolingly tired, go to bed and like 2 or 3 hours later I'm Mr wide awake and can't get back over, despite still being fookin wrecked.

Timing my painkiller intake and experiemting with different types of weed and no weed at all have all yielded pathetic results.

BTW....if it's yer finals....shouldn't you be....just guessing....working?

See between pro-tools evangelists and Nuendo zealots, my life is tormented. Pro-tools has virtually no MIDI functionality, nuendo's is brutally cut back. I like MIDI, what can I say, I don't mind if it's VSTi's or my rack of shiteboxes (most of which live elsewhere these days anyway).

If anyone's about to start a door to door conversion job on me over Sonar or Logic, forget it. I can use Logic when forced, in fact I used to totally letch over some of it's features (like the now extinct ability to set a pair of loop markers PER TRACK (sigh) ). But you don;t use Cubase for 13 years, starting at V2.01 on Atari, up to SX3 on a POS PC, and then dump it all and run off to a different platform. It's be like me taking guitar up after 20 years behind a bass.

BTW a mate of mine tl me yester day that protools on PC can finally do the same non destructive realtime edits it used to be able to pull off on a mac 10 years ago. still, the last time I used it, I was mastering an album for a local label, and every time I tried to render my fookin windows crashed PT (PT is deadly specific about who's fault crashes are, it will put it's hand up and apologize if it balled it, but it will also insult your OS beautifully). I ended up doing it al in cubase and then making the actualy CD master with......Nero LOL (ps don;t ever mention that to anyone from fresco records :) )

ah yes, cubase is light years ahead of pro tools in terms of midi and virtual instruments. and Reason can be a VST which is so awesome.

however, there is something so intuitive about pro tools that i like. after not using it for months, i can come back to a song, and jump right it. also, it has color coded waveforms (why hasn't cubase done that yet?! its such a genius idea!!). also, i prefer editing waveforms in pro-tools, again more intuitive. maybe thats just me.

also about the lack of sleep. can't get some over-the-counter sleeping pills?

Cubase does do colour coding, it's just off by default or all set to black or something, for some reason best known to Steinberg. Probably because there's so many Atari throwbacks like me wandering the world. I love the atari version, Richard and I could make it dance and jam. The Pc one is getting there slowly, but then the PC itself is such a primitive machine relative to the atari, albeit primitive, turbocharged, supercharged and rocket assisted. And windows is a lot harder to kick out of the way than either TOS or macOS, and that's what older versions of cubase relied on to work right, just overpatching any bit of the OS that stank (which on the Atari was most of it, inlcuding for some reason, a steinberg hacked version of the file selctor dialogue).

I still use cubase as if it's an atari, a rack of instruments and a tape deck. I never got over carried away with all the new and groovey things it can do. Or got over the loss of the interactive phrase synth, but I think I'm the only person who ever used it (you wanna harmonize horns and are pigshite lazy, pull up the IPS, wanna turn a solo into a killer semiquaver sequencer part, IPS again).

I must look at PT again, that's 2 people in 24 hours have said good things to me about it, I never like to ignore serendipity. Do the still do PT-free or am I gonna be looking for a naughty version?

EDIT: I have never done anything more than a drum part or two in reason, because every time I run the thing, I put up the rear panel view and tweak the cables and giggle. I can't help it, it's too cool to actually use.

The only over the counter things you can get are herbal fuckers, I used to use them at college the night before huge events, but an entire paket of them ( 6 times the max dose) merely results in farting.

A mate of mine had valium(or whatever the right name for it is these days) and he'd toss me a couple now and then, very handy, worked a treat. But the last thing I want is to ask my doc for that and have loads around me and end up shiefaced and even duller than I feel now :)

Nyquil, Tylenol cough & cold Nightime Formula mmight work for a few nights until you get back to normal. That stuff has saved me from becoming a zombie. Valerian Root or a Tincture works well if you want to go all natural.

that's not a bad plan. one decent night's kip could keep me going for over a week I'd think. I was necking lemon verbenna tea for a while, tho the main effect of it was to give me an uncomfortably sunny disposition :)

thing is, I need to be really careful with coughbottle/pills if i'm on my antibiotics cos they....

1. push me liver a bit too hard to be pissing around with.
2. cause "acute psychosis" if mixed with alcohol.

It only JUST occurred to me, that I'm off the antibiotics just now, maybe a bottle of something 40% or above would help. Then again, at 34 hangovers hold a lot more fear than they did at 18....or is that just me.

Still I found something HALF way useful to do....convert one of my old radio shows to mp3 so Maya can wet herself at my accent :) I just bloody wish I could focus enough to get the friggin community 2 tunes cooking along :(

I agree with what you're saying about hangovers. When i was 18 i used to get wasted 4 times a week no problem. Now i go out, it takes me a fortnight to recover! I don't wanna get old - boo hoo! Oh no, i already am
