my car is automatic. call me lazy.

Seeing Takuma Sato picked out of a wall because his F1-quality automatic, downshifted for no reason half way round a corner, made my mind up forever, altough it was mostly there already

Automatic unless I had a real sports car. I have replaced 3 clutches at $500 per incident in my time. Never an automatic transmission. However, I wish my XJ-S had a manual because the dinosaur GM T-400 transmission is too big, too heavy and too fucking hot. Sure it is bullet proof but the fucker produces too much heat and its cooler line likes to develop leaks.

i learned to drive in a manual, but i haven't driven one in years and i wouldn't trust myself with one today. so automatic, it is.

Anyways, to be honest, people driving manual over here are a very small minority... most of them probably do it because it's cheaper, and some are purists and would tell you it's more enjoyable, but not in the city while they drive 95% of the time in the city...

To be honest, I live and breathe with my automatic + cruise control.. remember, Quebec is a huge highway land :D

if I had to drive manual tomorrow in the fookin 25cm snowstorm they announce, I'd probably stay home

Excellent.....you never pointed out (being the only other sod on this forum who knows what an f1 car is), that Mr Sato is in no need of any help at all in finding the Armco. BTW, did I tell you Jacques was quickest last friday (altogether now "it's only testing")

auto, only because I've inherited this car, and the last two cars I've had from friends or family.

I've learned manual, and I'm frightening with it. Probably best I stick to auto.

Manual. It's natural. When i drive my mum's automatic jeep i end up nearly killing everyone, slamming on breaks, looking for the clutch, and touching people up looking for the gear stick.

Manual, the only time I ever drove an automatic I nearly broke my nose, on the steering wheel, when I went for the clutch :)

Drove manual transmission forever and switched to automatic this year. It feels so good not to have to shift all the damn time, especially in traffic.

Manual for me, though I've never driven an automatic. Anyone who's used to manual, and who's driven an automatic, say it's a nightmare to get used to. I find it hard to imagine driving without using a clutch & gear stick though.

Has to manual. Nothing like a good blast over the moors to blow away a hangover.

I rather like the idea of a sequential box, or pseudo sequential. Those flappy paddles (if only the ones in road cars changed gear when you touched them not when fucking HERBIE9000 under the bonet reckons it's ok to) or the rally/tourer style pull pull pull push push type.

And F1 cars should have 3 pedals and an H-hated shifter...thet are meant to be the best drivers in the world right? so the best runners in the world use a bike? do the best cyclists use mopeds?

one thing I don;t get though...whay Yanks NEED auto's...it's not like the roads look like the nordschleiffe or special stage 12 of rally finland or the back road from Bangor to 'Ards. The have runways for roads.

I drive auto now, have done manual in the past though.

More like bipedal these days, but manual in the day.

i did learn on a manual, and have a manual licence,but for some reason all the cars we've had since coming to Oz have been autos.

Manual.
