I'm not sure if it's still the case but lots of stores used to use 100volt speaker systems....really really easy to sabotage. Just a thought.
Yes, I have been through this personal hell and I never, ever want to go back.
It's not just Christmas carols/songs, it also includes anything by James Cunt (sorry, Blunt), Katie Melua, The Sugababes - dross that my ex-employers insisted on playing to keep the punters happy 
James cnut is a weapon of mass destruction in my opinion. Just sitting in the office with it coming on the radio 2-3 times an hour is enough to tempt psychosis.

We always had a christmas CD from Mid-November until Mid-January in our movie theatre (where I work), too. This is why I can't stand christmas songs anymore (which especially means "Last Christmas")...
I'm just really glad I don't work in music retail anymore, even though I was fantastic at dealing with irate and cruel customers who had really horrible taste in music.
How many copies of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen* in Christmas Chorus can one BUY?
*Just an example of something I'd consider bad. Not sure they ever released anything like that.
There's a Somerfield in town that's been playing Christmas music on full rotation since November. The staff are fully justified in starting a riot! 
I've been lucky that the places I've worked have had common sense when it came to putting holiday music on.

Right...you know the way people say they felt ill or something because of something you said....and it's figurative.
the title of that album, actually phyically made me dizzy and actually left me really reeling. Albeit that i've had LOTS of really good painkillers and am quite quite fuckered.
Sweetness, define common sense....loads of tracks for a long cycle length, soft gentle choral style music? Or are we just leaving retro and heart and soul in the changer? :)
The Christmas music was just interspersed with the usual stuff they played, it didn't entirely take over. But listening to the same music over and over for weeks has a mind-numbing effect anyway I suppose! :\ohwell:

I used to know this guy who could leave cubase looping the same 4 bar beat and inane happy hardcore bass for 7 hours...just pokin keys for inspiration and lookin stupid. Drove me psycho. His GF too, who would just get up and leave. Bizarrely she'd then call for me, sit down beside me at MY cubase workstation and JOIN IN and ask questions, of the sort nobody ever asks, ie not "where do u put the record". BF was a total HIMBO BTW...you may have heard the expression "meat dildo" from me hear...it's her's for him :) (among others that are just TOO rude) Bloody wasted on him.
At least even when I was in studios or venues all the time, it was different music mostly. Never toured wih a band, nor got stuck doing sound on a regular club night...had I done so...I would probably have committed mass murder by now :)
