Just been re-listening to the Peel day gig of Mr.Snares on the BBC1 site....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/johnpeel/johnpeelday/2005/qeh/profiles/

It's crazy stuff, but actually it's growing on me...

Any recommmedations on what to buy 1st?

I haven't heard any Venetian Snares so I can't recommend a particular album but if you want to hear more you can preview lots of VS tracks in full at Warp Records' Bleep digital download site.

Thanks for the advice. The Snares are on my New Years music sales 'to buy' list.

You can get a whole host of live sets from the http://www.vsnares.com/ website. A handful of these downloaded to yr PC should make an excellent starting point, assuming you've got the bandwidth.

Cheers matey; the PC's speakers are straining, close to auto-destruct as we speak.

No worries - I live to give.

There's plenty of other mad-crazy breakcore (or whatever you want to call it) out there, but you might like to check out Shitmat, Lesser and Kid606* as well, who are vaguely in the same zone. And Squarepusher, natch.

But, if you haven't already, grab hold of some Autechre, early Aphex Twin or Reload for some quality IDM of the first order.

* I have less than 20 tracks by these mooks altogether, so - please - no flame war if I'm wide of the mark.

I was just thinking; Electronic's BSide to 'Vivid'; Radiation is the closest thing (and Video 586 off cool as ice) NO et al. have come to this sort of techno lunacy.

It's all good!

Craig's digitalwaters, there are a couple of compilation albums on the Aphex Twin's Rephlex label that you might like. One is called "The Braindance Coincidence" (CAT100CD) and the other is called "Rephlexions" (CAT1000CD). They are both very varied (ranging from ambient and trip hop through acid, techno and what is now described as electroclash to Squarepusher-esque drill'n'bass) so they're not the sort of samey compilation where if you don't like the first few tracks you know you won't like the rest.

You can listen to samples from the former at the American version of Amazon and the latter at HMV's website and the mart section of the Warp Records website is selling the former at £5.99 (as is HMV's website) and the latter at £4.99 which is a good price considering they are both full-length albums with lots of tracks.

Apologies if you've got them already.

I've got bits of Aphex Twin stuff stashed away somewhere... they were OK.

Thanks for the suggestions!
