Best Gigs 05

Black Sabbath - Secret warm up gig at Aylesbury Civic Centre 6th June 2005.

Marillion - most of the dates on the Not Quite Xmas Tour, but Utrecht stands out for me (They played well over 3 hours!)

New Order at Brixton. Best gig EVER, and i've been to hundreds through the years. Hyde Park was excellent. Crosby, Stills and Nash - MEN, the day after Hyde park, rocked too. Went with my Dad, was a brillinat concert. Killers- Brixton. Short set, but to hear Mr Brightside- well worth it. Kylie- MEN, went with my bro for my birthday and was ok, apart for the hour in the middle- fucking boring. Good night though, what i remember.

None - this year anyway. No!!! went to a gig on Sunday, but I was a little hungover on the way back up....all young guys, very nervous and all that - sort of Coldplay type stuff and some covers of the aforementioned and Athlete - that sort of thing - but some great songs of their own - tbh - that was the best gig this year - and the one before that was the same band - unforunately, NO come third! Sorry.........

Young Gods at the Barfly a few weeks ago. Magic, although I busted my glasses in the moshpit, thereby turning a free evening (was on guestlist thanks to Journo pal) into a very expensive one. Still, got to hang out with Franz afterwards.

i went to 3 gigs this year. sad, but an improvement on last year's ZERO. new order, the beat and duran duran (and a local metal band--my ex-roomie is friends with them, but they don't really count). oh, and hooky's DJing in orlando. not really a gig, per se.

new order by leaps and bounds. although hearing 'a view to a kill' with the orlando symphony orchestra playing in the background was pretty awesome. :D

You can't mean'The Beat' as in early 80's go-feet label The Beat surely? Answer the question before I make a prat of myself!:)

I think the Agent is genuinely talking about our Beat, but weren't they called the Engerlish Beat on those shores, cos they already had their own group called the Beat.

However, I believe there's two versions of our original Beat operating now! Rankin' Roger (and his son) front the UK version, and the Americans have their own beat fronted by Dave Wakelin, cos he lives Stateside now.

I've seen Roger's version a couple of times this year. Neville Stapes performed with them at Glastonbury and, as well as their own tracks, they cover the likes of Rock the Kasbah (in a 2-tone stylee).

Rankin' Roger.... oh, the memories are all flooding back now, of those carefree moments........like the one where I went to see them at the Bingley Hall in Brum. It was used for many events; unfortunately the night of the concert co-incided with a cattle show - I kid you not! There wasn't enough time to 'clear up' so they placed matting on the floor over what was presumably cow dung. After about 20 minutes when everyone had been dancing go-feet stylie, the place had an aroma, which wasn't exactly pleasant...........ah, those were the days!

I'm going to go and hunt down my pink and black memoirs and see how long I can do 'the' dance before oxygen is required............

exactly as al said. the beat as in early 2tone, 'mirror in the bathroom,' 'i confess' 'stand down margaret,' 'sooner or later,' et cetera. none of this 'english beat,' 'charlatans UK,' 'london suede' nonsense. and i don't know of 'the other beat' anyway!

p.s. dave wakeling looked fantastic and was in fine form! he was bantering with the audience the whole time; i'd love to have a drink in the pub with him--seems like an interesting and fun character.
