Eddie Vedder (sp?) sings the same as Heather Smalls from Mpeople....opens his mouth sideways..really wierd. So long since I heard them.

I still remember sitting in a music shop (of which I was getting paid to sit there, looking cool) and putting out the endcaps of the Pearl Jam live cds. I couldn't help but think "This is just a bit far, don't you think, boys?".
Granted, I wouldn't mind NO doing that AT ALL.

I love pearl jam so much, they are one of if not my proper favourite band. i just think eddie vedder has a fucking amazing voice, and their music just got me straight away when i first heard it. i played my dad "Jeremy" before and i don't think he liked it. but i dont care really, i love them and nothing's gonna change that.

It's good to not always have the same musical tastes as your parents, Jack. My Dad and I love loads of the same music, but then there's loads of music i like that he can't stand. It's good for debate:)

i stand by the m-people comment...he DOES sound that way. I used to really like them, then, I dunno....I totally drifted away from all modern rock.

Agreed, my dad and mom have varied tastes, but at the end of the day you'll see them listening to this stuff called "smooth jazz" - and I can't tolerate it at all, too much like elevator music and not very jazzlike at all.
Then you've got me and all my industrial music, and it gives new meaning for them to the adage "Turn that racket down!"
I do like a good amount of PJ music, because it hit the airwaves at a time when modern rock music actually didn't suck (much) and I was listening to college stations.

that's a point...I wonder if OTHER bands put me off PJ....particularly some of the more Faddy top 40 ones. We used to play (not SNSS another band) a couple of PJ track, and an Alice in chains tune and some peppers stuff...and I loved it all, but I dunno, it's not the sort of thing that I put on at home for ME....when guests were in, music like that was acceptable to both parties :D Steve time has always been for New Order, The Orb...and music that get's me abused when other people hear it (like my large collection of barry gray themes)

Fair enough, but do you think he wants to transform himself into Neil Young? (grouchy, difficult etc)
Rock For Life Encourages Fans To Boycott Pearl Jam
'With the release of Pearl Jam's latest album, Binaural, less than 24 hours away, pro-life organization Rock For Life has sent a mass mailout to the 25,000 people on their "pro-life pledge" list requesting that they not purchase the album, as it "pays for abortions." The bulk of the subscribers are aged 16 to 24.
Rock For Life, formed in the mid '90s has targeted Pearl Jam to present a counter point to lead singer Eddie Vedder's pro-choice statements. Surprisingly the organization doesn't finger many bands when it comes to their pro-choice views. Erick Whittington director of Rock For Life explains, "We haven't targeted that many bands. I know we targeted Rage Against The Machine when the Battle Of L.A. came out. Before that we targeted Jewel for doing a benefit concert for Zero Population Growth." He goes on to add, "We could target a lot more bands, but it's not just because Eddie, Rage and Jewel are huge. They also are huge supporters of Rock For Choice, Voters For Choice. I know Foo Fighters did a Rock For Choice benefit a few years ago, but I don't know much about it."
It should be noted that Whittington and his staff spend time researching a band or artist before they send out their press release denouncing them. "I did extensive research on Eddie Vedder. There are numerous concerts, quotes and benefits. I know with RATM I did find Tom Morello on a chat room transcript where he basically said [about our press release] 'It was one of the most ridiculous things he's seen written.'" Whittington added, "I wanted to take it to the next step and challenge him on it. I'd rather debate him personally, because I'm not out to be [on] Jerry Springer. I just want to present the facts to him."
Whittington has a non-confrontational approach to protesting, as he notes that massive confrontations don't seem to be as effective as they once were. Even in an interview he seems well spoken, friendly and is even apologetic if something he says he thinks might offend ChartAttack.com, such as saying "Eddie is pro-abortion." However this doesn't mean Rock For Life won't have a presence at Pearl Jam concerts. "I'm more into kids handing out brochures. To let kids know that Eddie is, I use the term, pro-abortion. I want to challenge them, but I want to shy away from a yelling match."
Supporters of Rock For Life include punk band MxPx, rapper MC Hammer and Gary Cherone, former lead singer of Extreme and Van Halen. While these artists clearly don't have the influence Eddie Vedder has, Whittington isn't discouraged, "Obviously, Eddie is selling a lot more records than Mr. Cherone, MC Hammer or myself. But I don't think it's too hard to convince teens that abortion is wrong. Teens practicing abstinence these days seem to be higher." '
