The Cure's "Let's go to bed" sounds a lot like Depeche Mode's "Master and Servant."

You want an example of out-and-out theft (since settled out of court)?

Go to iTunes and check out the 30-second clips of Kelly Osbourne's "One Word" and Visage's "Fade to Grey." It's a blatant ripoff, right down to some of the lyrics.

Because they knew there was a lawsuit coming on?:skeptic:

I always loved the reason why they didn't sue. Youth (KJ's bassist) said 'Karma will get him'

There's a bit of a debate about that one. Several people feel the synthesised bassline is too similar to BM. That's why I put in the queation mark, as I am unsure of that one myself.

Cambo, WTF are you on about?

so this isn't the most "muso" one but...

A-ha: "The Sun Always Shines on TV" became U2's "Beatiful Day".

and keeping the 80's vibe...

Prince stole from himself (ahem) when writing the Bangles Manic Monday; the verse melody orignally on "1999"

although he was really a "Slave" to the record company. Poor chap, it must be tough being a pop star.

Killing Joke described the Purple One as 'a clever plagurist, a thief like Bowie.'

Having said that, I do like the shrimp.

The Fall "New Face In Hell"

became

Pavement's "Conduit For Sale!"

Hell, they've based quite a bit of what they've done by MES & Co. I suppose.

I know this isn't much help, but on some italo-disco compilation made in Japan, (the CD was made in Japan; the music is italo-disco), there is a song that was ripped off from Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a place on earth". The bad thing is, I lost the CD and I can't even remember the title or the artist!
