At the ripe old age of 32 I've never had a single driving lesson. No real reason other than laziness. I would love to drive but cannae be arsed with the months of learning involved.
Anyone else in the same boat?

Never had a lesson , drove when I lived in Turkiye in the mid nineties ( I was definitely better than a few of the locals )occasionaly move some of the artic trucks in the works yard . Been toying with the idea for a while , however even if I did drive as a qualified fella , the actual need to wouldn't often arise ... Mrs Garymac drives and I drink , it's worked for twenty years , she dont touch a drop , never has , however I think it'd be nice to give her a break on the longer trips , also be handy for the states .

Well , i doubt if i'd pass a test now!! I took my test in 1987!

Would that be deemed a late start in the States Frank ? Thae car seems so part of U.S. culture / life
Three things hold me back from getting my test,
- fear of other road users, it makes no odds how good YOU are if some other donkeywit drives into you, this business of 2 way traffic is deeply disturbing to me.
- fear of being in charge of something that can kill (I know I've flown sound rigs big enough to kill if used right, butthat's different, that would have taken REAL effort not a momentary lapse.
- Too many hours on sims has taught me too much about driving near the edge for me ever to be a safe driver (I'd find it nigh on impossible not to press on, and I dissapprove greatly of speeding anywhere but empty roads. Not to mention braking with my left foot with works in almost NO road cars.
Passed my test first time, aged 17. Haven't driven in three years though and only ever owned one car. Just no need for it in London. I only ever needed a car 'for the shops' and now all the supermarkets deliver to you anyways!
Always had birds with cars though. It's one thing I insist on! 
Also passed my test first time at 17, but never owned a car until I was 31! (was a skint student, lived in London, had a company car). However, am currently in the process of getting back to training as an Approved Driving Instructor, so maybe I could offer my services to those who can't, but would like to!? 
And the theory test is ok....it's only 35 questions for the learner driver, but 100 for the driving instructor. I passed the theory test for driving instructors last year, and if I can do that, you can all pass the 35 questions version!

Doesn't even have to be oncoming traffic for danger, as per those unfortunate children in Florida who were passengers in a car, and the car was slammed into from behind and forced into a school bus, earlier this week. Very sad :(
Don't drive yet, had a few lessons two years ago in a car park. I hopefully will pick it up again over the next few years, thankfully I'm only 19, well, 20 in 9 days. :D
i can't - but its early days.
Legally able to but I haven't had time for lessons yet.
You can't get away with not driving here really - evrything is so spread out. Not like England.

The same here. Over a year I've been driving without a driver's license - coz I didn't pass the tests a year ago and hardly will pass another.
well it took me almost another 10 years after getting my licence before i actually owned my first car. i tell you, you need a car in this town. sad but true.
I'm 21 and I don't even have a permit. In Philadelphia, because auto insurance is extremely high, my parents won't let me learn to drive or even take the written test. But because I live near a bus terminal in Philly, a car isn't entirely necessary.
My parents could only afford the Model T Ford handed down form generation to generation because every generation was too poor to afford a new car. Hence, being the 18 of 30 children I never learned how to drive but I learned how to repair the car with empty soup cans and duct tape.
In California of the United States, no one walks anywhere more than five blocks away and proper public transportation does not exist. Being without driver's license might as well make one a quadrapelegic in CA.
I got my license at 16 and I was one of the last to get one in my town.
I've always lived in the city so there's never been any real need to drive. The train at the top of the road (4 of them an hour) gets me into the city centre in 8 minutes. Driving in and parking would take about 40.
That said, I hate relying on mates when I need to get somewhere even slightly off the beaten track (retail parks, my granny's house etc). And it really comes into it's own when you're on holiday. Fortunately I always bring mates/burds who can drive!
About 6 months before my 30th I had a bet with my burd that if I wasn't driving by then I'd stick $100 on red or black when we got to Vegas. My birthday came, we went to Vegas, I stuck on the bet and it won. Don't know if that's an omen....

Anyhoo,
I started learning to drive when i was 17 but didn't like my instructor. He used to push my knee down for me to work the clutch and put his hand on mine when i was changing the gear stick, so i though he was a bit pervy.
Then my friend who was also a student of his, got a phone call asking her if she was in the shower and all sorts of stuff. Her number was ex-directory and only 15 people knew it. Then she recognised his voice. From then on i used to hide and not answer the door when he turned up for my lesson. I couldn't even speak to him to tell him i'd cancelled. Dirty perv!!
I only passed my test about 6 years later as i only needed the bus to work. Just been offered a job in Manchester City Centre and if i go for it, i can get rid of my car. That's a scary thought but think of all the money i'll have!
I'm a bloody good parker by the way, i can get where water can't!
