Tommy Geromichalos has a wish. Because he is 12 years old and has cystic fibrosis, he gets to have his wishes taken extra seriously. He has only one. He wants to save his school. Tommy has been going to St. Cyril of Alexandria Elementary School in East Lansdowne practically since he was born.

Last fall, rumors started circulating that the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, citing declining enrollment and rising costs, might recommend closing St. Cyril’s, along with three other elementary schools in the eastern part of the county.

When Tommy heard the rumors he decided to contact the Make-A-Wish Foundation for help.

The Make-A-Wish people had been able to grant his sister Samantha a wish several years ago. She is also a CF sufferer and her dream was to meet Celine Dion. The Make-A-Wish folks made it happen. Maybe, he thought, they could make his wish come true too.

Tommy’s wish is for St. Cyril’s to stay open for two more years, just long enough for him and his friends to graduate. So he wrote it down and sent it to the foundation’s office in Plymouth Meeting. more
