Sitting here in front of my pc my dog sounded the alarm and I noticed a black Ford pulling up my driveway. My garage is behind my house and he appears to be heading that way.

I walked out to investigate.

"Can I help you," I ask.

"Is that your truck," the policeman queried. "Do you own a Ford LTD?"

Knowing that I have not done anything illegal with the truck I affirmed the first question. The Jag was sitting there awaiting new oxy sensors and a nice day to replace all 12 spark plugs and Wifey had the Buick. "No other Fords just the Jag, Ranger and a Buick."

"Got a complaint of a gas and dash with your plate but it was for a blue LTD not the blue Ford Ranger you own. Does the truck have a front license plate?"

For the first time in many years my entire fleet had front plates. Usually I smash a raccoon or get too close to a snow bank and the plates fall off.

"Yes, check it out."

He thanked me and said that the gas station people copied the plate number wrong.

Bizarre, even for mid-America.

I've never heard of a "gas and dash" before, either.

Gas and Dash = fuel up automobile and get the fook out without paying for it. The person they want apparently left the nozzle in the car when he sped off.

in most petrol stations in liverpool, you have to pay first before you tank up.

i'm surprised they bother with it...I thought that's what yer army was for....making sure you never have to pay more than 50p a gallon.

I seen a sign once in ilinois....."full valet and free tank of gas....$6.99"

WTF

When gas broke the $2 per gallon mark gas and dash increased. Many places are pre-pay or credit only.

And yes that fcuker Bush was supposed to steal the Iraqi oil so gas prices would return to .$25 per gallon.

I paid $2.39 a gallon yesterday for gas at Costco. It's a ripoff I tell you.

I think the cheapest I've paid lately is when I visited the midwest and gas was $1.87 a gallon. Still not a bargain.

It's still the equivalent of $8-9 a gallon over here.

And every time I think of moving back across the pond, I think about how much more I would have to pay on the gas...

Perhaps I should stay put.
