So yeah, I download music legally

Got an account on the UK iTunes Music Store, and all was going well. Until...

Just for the hell of it I decided to change stores and have a browse around the USA store. ARRGGHH! It's so good! I'd say judging off what I saw then it must be at least twice as big as the UK store. Why is this???

There are so many more music videos on the USA store, and it sucks.

In the USA store you can download TV shows and things like that, but not over here.

In the USA store I looked at the Pearl Jam section and there's so much more, it's just not fair. The UK store sucks ass.

And it's not like you can just switch stores and buy from the American store, cos if your account is registered on the UK one then it doesn't allow it. It's just really annoying me.

There's stuff that I want that is only found in the UK store. What's the deal.. is there a valid reason why you can't buy from all the stores? The UK store has a bunch of tunes that weren't released in the states. I tried buying them from the UK store when I was in London and it didn't even work than. I guess it goes by your billing address.

Why can't you just say "I like it up the shitter" like everybody else? Bloody euphemisms....

if you download current top selling ANYTHING...you get fucked over. movies, games, mp3's, they can only watch some of it, and that effort is best targetted against those who are costing them most.

Download obscure things amd old things and no one cares.

And you need safepeer or peerblocker in place if you really MUST get something that's "hot"....it has a compiled list of known cunt IP's and wont let em connect.

hey, if this is any good canadian mytelus.com is closing down 28 february-06. exactly because they're not going to compete with iTunes. there isn't an account charge for January and February but they're still dloading legally. maybe you can get different tunes that you'd want.. dunno about your being overseas UK but have a look around. go mytelus.com-internet services (from the top runner)-music. for looking choose BC as your location as it should be there. downloads/jukebox/clubs/bars..

BTW...the reason for the different stores having different content, is the music industry's obsession with "territories" and licensing for them. they keep the world divided up so they can say who gets what slice of which cake where.

It's the same with DVD regions....trust me...they have nothing to do with DVD players being affected differently by the precession of the Earth on it's axis at different locations, and everything to do with making sure they can sell things at different prices in different places at different times.

Jack you should ask yer dad about worldwide licensing and just watch the colour drain from his face ;)

Why can't you buy it as an import though.. like in a actual record store?

Just signed up for the i-choons thing a few weeks ago and overall it's pretty good... just a shame you can't access it from work... the 80's section they've just created sounds interesting... gonna have a shuftie when I get home...

When it comes to trying to buy US stuff from the UK store I-Tunes find that Guilt is a Useless Emotion...

Steve's got it - avoid all the commercial download bollocks, say a little prayer concerning the sucker punch to your ears that the mp3 code is guilty of, use the format to distribute low-key recordings.

I saw this incredible crap on the Apple site today about this guy who'd just downloaded the billionth i-Tune. Hey baby, it was a Coldplay track.

So he's got some prize of 500 million dollars and a spare office in the Pentagon - go, check it out if you think I'm exaggerating!

Soulseek it is. Then again, I mainly download live gigs of tunes I already own a publishing license for, and since there is no mechanical copyright on the recordings, it suits realtively legal.

I don't care for iTunes and iPods for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to the fact that Apple's limited DRM sucks big wad.

Thank God for Mr. Robinson's website of www.badfruit.com so if I ever did have a notion to buy an iTune, at least I wouldn't be limited to playing it on a freaking iPod.

It's not a good thing when a company like Apple tries to limit your choices.

I wanna buy the video for Do The Evolution by Pearl Jam, and, surprise surprise, it's not in the UK store but it is in the USA store. Killer.

so after 20 years of digital music, they are selling a lower quality product with no packaging to collect, and basically screwing the artist more than ever. and now they are selling videos in a low quality format also instead of just watching them for free. ... and this is improvement?

I like iTunes. It's amazingly cheap - maybe too cheap ? - and I like it that there's no packaging. I dont need any more plastic boxes, and 1 - 2 songs per disc is just wasteful. I dont notice any lack of sound quality (my hearing isnt perfect though). After the songs are burned to cd you can re-import in another format mp3 or whatever. Its annoying that not everything is available everywhere, but what's new, that's what Amazon etc is for.
