Always thought they were, at least in the sense of the word meaning 'rubbish'... But, my god, what were they thinking?

Well, it's well known that there are a lot of hardcore Depeche fans here... may come as a shock to some...:)

It's French, so follow the rules of pronunciation for French (de-PESH mode)
Anybody know what it means?

Just for the record, it means something like "fast fashion."
NOOLers will still offer their own unique interpretations, I'm sure. ![]()
Always thought it was sanskrit for "David Gahan got his dick pierced", but I guess I was wrong ![]()

Depeche Mode just act that way to pick up the chicks/birds!
... or maybe it was just a phase they were going thru for an entire decade, and they outgrew it
Depeche Mode has always seemed so shallow i don't think it matters, acting gay is part of their poseur act... heck, i doubt they even know
Doesn't it seem that any band that is really good turns out to be gay or bi or at least never answers questions about it? What is up with that???

all arty creative people are either gay, black, or jewish. or even better, two out of three. it's a fact.
... to be honest, human sexuality is pretty fucked up... that's life

To counter that theory, I'm artistic and creative, but I'm not gay, black or Jewish. ![]()
kids i think you have too much time on your hands worrying about who's gay.
What's next is morrisey gay thread?
That's true. All because of Brokeback Mountain going into our pop culture. The trend is continuing. Speaking of which, the Oscars are going to air tomorrow.

okay either gay, black, jewish, or mentally ill![]()
I'm not that, either. But I know some famous people who have that. Take Antonin Artaud, for instance.
So? They still made some ace tunes during that decade. When they tried to come off as straight - Songs of Faith and Devotion and beyond - their tunes went downhill. Maybe that also has to do with the fact Alan Wilder left to do Recoil, but nevertheless...
I don't really give a rat's ass if someone in the creative world is gay, straight, bi, ambiguous, or into sheep...I mean, etcetera, etcetera ![]()
I think it's human nature to be curious about whether someone in a public venue is somehow "different" from what we consider the norm, but it's not necessarily a bad thing to wonder aloud if someone's gay or not. Treating it like it's some sort of disease that only certain people catch is ridiculous. You're attracted to whoever you're attracted to, and the first person to successfully change their sexual orientation from one to the other will be lying through their teeth.
So are DM gay or straight? Dunno, and apart from the speculation providing me with material for crude jokes I don't care
(thought I'd be honest).
All I know is, their music is alright but nothing I get excited about ![]()
- Senior year. College. Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Townhouses. To the south, gay neighbors. Always listening to the Mode. Always way too loud. Especially the low end. Thumping. Pounding at the south wall. Trying to pound it down. To the north, the type that calls the police. Calls the police on us. Because of "our" loud music. But we are not even home. It was the Mode they were hearing. The Mode of the Gays.
Didn't know Ian was jewish!
BTW, isn't Martin Gore married with children? Maybe they all play "in both teams" as we say here.
I thought they were all married and with children save Vince Clarke??
Andy Warhol was shocked that everyone in Duran Duran was straight since "they wore more makeup than their girlfriends."
It's funny since DM and NO are both considered major gay icon groups. As a matter of fact, WFTSC and Playing the Angel were both on the rainbow-laden "Gay Pride" cardboard rack at the record store. How you equate your music with sexuality remains voodoo economics to me.
Except the Bronski Beat, of course. I mean, come on.
