For those who might be interested, Tsotsi is based on a book by Athol Fugard of the same name and revolves around a gangster (tsotsi)who hijacks a car only to find a baby girl strapped into a car seat in the back.
I thought Gavin Hood was doing just fine but the "Amandla! Awethu!" (Power is ours) bit was one step too far - thats a slogan from the 'liberation' struggle against the apartheid regime, dont see how thats relevant to the film or SA life anymore... 
i was quite happy for the clooney to win,
is the honary oscar just given out to people who've never actually won one but deserved to over there careers but always got robbed?
So Martin scorsese will get one next year.

I think they are out of touch because they more or less say that if you don't watch the gay cowboy movie you are obviiously a gun toting bible reading Bush supporter. Sorry there was only one good cowboy movie and it was based on a Japanese story (Magnificient Seven). MSN had a great article on Jon Stewart's comments during the ceremony. Hollywood cannot take negative feedback.

Sure, I want to see Capote but really do not feel like dishing out nearly $20 in tickets and another $10 in popcorn and soda when I know I can get the dvd in a few months for less. Other than that film there was nothing I wanted to see. Speaking of which Star Wars was the only Oscar nominated film I saw and only becaue I wanted to see the rest of the story and my kids wanted to see it.
Seriously, are ticket sales increasing?

hint: the only one i saw in the theatre was brokeback mountain and i saw all of them (and not on DVD).

Yeah, I short changed the cowboy genre.
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly is awesome. Could very well be a Civil War movie. I love the anti-Northern sentiment in the film and all the Italians fighting for the Union. James Van Clef is pure evil in that film.
Blazing Saddles the funniest. Even had gay people in it.
