Hate to be a spoiler, but it won't be quite as awesome as you're thinking, Spotty:

The show will be entitled Darth Knows Best, after rejected titles such as Desperate Stormtroopers, Arrested Jedi Development, and The Imperial Office. It will focus on Vader at home, and feature a moderately attractive actress whose career has fallen on hard time since the "Brat Pack" days of the Eighties as his wife (Ally Sheedy has been tested for the role).

In addition to Vader and "Sandy", his household will include a boisterous brood of children from central casting: the hot and slutty teenage daughter (to target male viewers aged 18-49), the brainy but difficult middle male child, and the precocious and adorable child of the family (we're thinking of going with another girl, though the sudden introduction of twins in future seasons as a plot device to accomdate the loss of interest from storylines involving younger children is a possibility).

A "wacky neighbor" along the lines of Boba Fett or Chewbacca will be necessary (test audiences reacted favorably to the possibility of Vader, Fett, Chewie, and Palpatine sharing beers in the alley outside the house and discussing the issues of the day in drawn-out Texan accents). Also, the insertion of a nerdy male suitor for the eldest daughter should not be ruled out. Jaleel White still works at the McDonald's on Sunset, perhaps he can come in to read for the part. Or maybe that guy who played "Skippy" on Family Ties has a kid.....

We project a mid-season run of six episodes, to get the word out. A special appearance by Luke as the long-lost son who has an alcohol problem is already in the works for a "very special" sweeps episode in November. Also, Princess Leia and Han could be written in as the kinky "swinger couple" next door, if push comes to shove. And there would have to be allowances for Vader's temper, so a lot of superfluous Imperial officers hanging around just in case he snaps and needs to use the Force to strangle someone is a must.

The first episode will feature Vader attempting to help his son with a science project while his slutty teenager daughter dates a Negro :evil4:

what is the point the last 3 we're pretty dump to be fair and i can only see a tv show diluting what was once a good trilogy into a mediocre franchise

Saw the internet flick. That was great! Can't wait to see the TV episodes.

I'm reserving judgment till I see it.

But you really can't surpass the original movie, in my book. So, I think this is a futile exercise.

Hate to be accused of SW geekery but this was announced at least six months ago...

It's live action (not animated), taking place between Eps III and IV, as Nick mentioned.

The other likelihood is that it's going to be filmed in a new kind of 3D vision. ie. You'll need the glasses to view it. Seriously.

The writing is taking place now for premiering 2007. Focus is meant to be on new characters with a slant towards bounty hunters. A singing and dancing IG-88 routine has not been confirmed.

The other good thing (I think?) was that Kevin "Clerks" Smith was hotly rumoured to be involved. So at least we may get some half-decent dialogue.

The three prequels were a bitter disappointment on all fronts so I dunno why anyone's bothering getting so excited about a TV series. If the acting and script/story is as hammed up and dull as the recent films then this'll be a monumental waste of cash.

The original trilogy are great films and really groundbreaking for the time but the prequels took a fuckload of shine off that legacy. I bought the original trilogy DVD boxset when it came out but have no intention of ever wasting my cash on the new ones (unless I'm loaded and out of beer mats).

Doubt I'll be tuning in to this TV series to watch Jar Jar Binks arse around with a lightsaber either.

doubts even here.

I agree that the last three episodes were a big disappointment. I could have shot that stupid Jar Jar Binks and hated all the mushy scenes between Padma and Anakin, they had absolutely no charisma. Only good thing about them IMHO was Ewan Mc Gregor - mmmmmmmmmm.

You can't beat the brilliance of the first three episodes.

Plus, the special effects were spectacular and more consistent compared to the prequels.

you must admit that the last 15 minutes of revenge of the sith were some of the best star wars moments in the whole of the galaxy, far, far away. especially the final scene where we see baby luke and his aunt and uncle watching the suns set on tatooine--practically the same scene where, in episode 3, luke watches the suns set as he ponders over what to do about leia's message, hidden inside R2. two of the most important moments in our hero's life framed by the same beautiful suns.

Don't think you'll get many arguments over the merits of the the newer trilogy. But the general hope is that the TV series will end up in fresh, new creative hands in order to avoid this sort of outcome.

I agree but I just don't believe fresh, new creative hands will be allowed anywhere near this TV series. George Lucas is renowned for demanding creative control over any project he's involved with and if we go on that assumption and take into account the critical (rightly so) mauling the prequels got then things aren't looking good for SW's small-screen debut.

A good example of the 'Star Wars quality' vs. 'Lucas involvement' ratio is The Empire Strikes Back. A great, dark and well written sci-fi film with no bumbling comedy characters and little hackneyed dialogue. Amount of Lucas involvement? Very little as other people wrote the screenplay and directed it. No coincidence there then as the ones Lucas was all over are piss poor (see Episode 1,2,3) by comparison.

But I have an inkling you already know and agree with that theory DC! :smoking:

EDIT: Those fresh, new creative pair of hands they've signed up to write the new series. I'm so glad they've had the bottle to try someone new.......

.......hang on!!

I'm not too sure about the authenticity of that Irish report, Alistair. They may be confusing writing with producing.

Here's a direct quote from Rick McCallum on Empire Online a couple of days ago:

First up, the Stars Wars TV series that we’ve been hearing about since Sith came out. “That’s not going to happen probably for another year and a half while we develop scripts and everything else. But it’s fantastic; we’ve got some incredible writers. It’s going to be much darker, much more character-based, and I think it’s going to be everything the fans always wanted the prequels to be. They’ll be one-hour episodes. It takes place between Episodes III and IV. It’s going to be all-new characters, maybe a few bounty hunters in there to start the series off."

Initially, Lucas was never going to get involved in writing or directing the TV series. He was going to be dedicating his time to the Indy IV project and a WWII film ("Red Tails").

The whole point of the project was going to be that a new generation would take the series in a different direction.

Personally I don't mind if he takes an advisory role in the production. He has an astute technical eye, perfect for recreation of the hardware, plot-loops and environments of any expanded universe work. But as you've guessed, I'd prefer another team to take over the bulk of the writing and direction work. A Josh Whedon-type lending hand to the dialogue would be ideal.
