I suspect any attempt to actually USE one would provoke a violent reaction from it....built circa what? 73? the kind of synth that will drop into some strange tibettan scale if someone starts to dance near it and make the air 3 degrees warmed and more humid. And god be with you if you point stage power cans at it.

My Moog is about 2 years younger, and while it's certainly simpler...like all things designed for Yanks....it's a LOT better built and a HELL OF A LOT more stable.

If you ever listen to On the Run by Pink Floyd....that's an EMS Synthi.......although for some reason ppl always say it's and EMS VCS3 Putney, which is ALMOST the same instrument but a lot less rare.

That particular piece would be the first to come to anyone's mind when thinking of EMS (that and maybe some radiophonic workshops stuff using their MASSIVE "Delaware" machine), just as much as if I said "Oberheim DMX" to anyone "in the know" they would automatically think of Blue Monday. TBH I can't quite remember if On The Run is a Synthi as produced to the masses or a subtly different keyless VCS3 offshoot.

on earlier machines, the act of connecting say an LFO to a pitch oscilator was done by "patching" a cable from one to the other like an old school phone exchange....ence the term "synth patch" you hear still in use.....the VCS3 and it's siblings changed this by having all the CV (control voltage) sources down the side, and all the destinations along the top....thus with a smaller area used and only map pins to make the connections anything could still be patch to anything else.

Curiously this practice was never superceded, because later analogue and most digital machines simply hardwired the most common patchings, with a few switches to cut/make connections, and were in essence MUCH more basic......my Moog would get pissed on by an EMS for sheer 1970's sci fi music wrongness.

I found a virtual one online, tried to use in in my cover of Truth for a really fucked ending....but it blew 7 shades of shite out of cubase...I will try it standalone when I stop sulking with it....if it's not just a computer breaker I'll see about getting you a copy. But it's a SERIOUS piece of madness, touch the wrong control and you could dematerialize or something.

I found a virtual one online, tried to use in in my cover of Truth for a really fucked ending....but it blew 7 shades of shite out of cubase...I will try it standalone when I stop sulking with it....if it's not just a computer breaker I'll see about getting you a copy.

I'll take a look now, there's a short lull in my busy workload (really it's the windows machine's workload)

EDIT: it needs a VST host....smart move for an instrument that ignores keyboard input most of the time. If you dunno what i mean....much thought will be needed on my part to get it working for you...assuming it's not terminally shite.
