Gnarls Barkley hits UK No 1 spot on downloads only...

Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy' has just hit the UK no 1 spot, straight in, without touching the sides, on downloads only, making it the first record to hit No 1 before its actual release date.

For some reason, despite it being a soul type tune, I really like it.

It's a real shame that it now looks like the proper single is dead. But when people have a choice between 79p for the song they want, rather than £2.99 for the song they want and one or two they'll probably never listen to it's easy to see how it's happened.

Personally, I much, much, prefer actually having a physical record/CD than just something downloaded off the net.

I really miss buying a single 'totally blind'... or 'deaf' mebbe, on the day of release, having never heard it. Just like in the 80's with NO.

It's been ages since I've bought anything new and been blind/deaf to it...

Radio stations need to stop playing records months and months before they actually get released. Not only would this make buying the single more exciting for a fan of a band/artist, but it would also help stop the fact that with pretty much every single song reaches it's highest chart position during it's first week.

If we can get that fixed, I just need to work on my self control and stop myself downloading albums when they leak out onto p2p networks!

I totally agree. I used to do that with all the NO singles throughout the eighties, and then the policy changed, I think, after Fine Time. Must admit, if i'd bought 'Jetstream' before I'd heard it, I'd be upset.LOL

Now you hear songs six weeks in advance. Although that is what has sold 'Crazy', cos it is very good, to be fair to the artist.

No it's a class tune.Put a soulful singer up against a Portishead-like bass and you've got Gnarls.Bound to appear on the odd film soundtrack.
