Would Hooky's six stringer be classified as a baritone guitar? I've been looking at six string basses in hope of buying one to add a new sound to my band, I was wondering if there is any difference between the type of 6 string basses that he uses and a baritone guitar.

Baritone guitars are often tuned A through A or a low B through B, and you may find them with a low G through G (essentially a conventional 4 string tuning with two deeper sound strings positioned above them).
Hooky's Shergold is tuned E through E, as per a normal 6 string lead guitar.
You could take one of those Baritone guitars (the Ernie Ball copies OCR or Crafter ones spring to mind) and string and tune it to E through E, but you would have a hell of a job getting the string tension right without snapping, and it would be a bugger to play. You'd have to use such a gauge of string that you'd shred your fingers, in many cases!
Actually Shergold call the Marathon and modulator Baritone guitars..
Most retarded name I ever seen for a bass was Victor Wooten who has a 4 string tuned DGCF...which he calls his "tenor bass"..musical genius...linquistic moron :D
PS...I'm sure there's a lonk on Shergold's website to the guy who winds Hooky's strings to order for the Marathon.....with the right strings you can play any bought "bass" in any register.

If I can't get this bass on ebay for cheap then I'm looking at this baritone/6 string bass - here and here
Any opinions on the latter? It's tuned to EADGBE so it should alright.
Oh, and the first bass went up £60 overnight last night. :\ohwell:
