Subute. - had the fencing, the trophies, the grandstand. you name it.
Mitre Trophy football - great for the Streets - and orange.
Rubiks Cube - Took me a while, but i did it in the end.
lego playmobil, we had it all the castle, the pirate ship, and the space ship. matchbox. my marklin train set. my fully functioning steamroller.
i still have most of this stuff.

Subbuteo won through in the end then :D
I actually consider myself as having had a deprived childhood on account of never having had mechano. I asked repeatedly, played with my mates sets, but my folks just always had this look of terror when I reminded them I liked it. Oh well.

bit of a stinger on a cold wet day I seem to remember.
What about Kevin Keegan's super striker, orange & black? and much lighter. Impossible to save a shot with one of them, they didnt half move in the air ![]()

I could clock that game 3 or 4 times, probably the last thing I was any good at, I took up bass shortly afterwards and wasted my life with it instead....man I coulda been a contender.
Was it astro wars or firefox that played the clip from holsts planets in little monophonic beeps, whichever, it shaped my musical destiny LOL.
And even I the football avoidist extraordinaire can remember the sheer terror of standing there in shorts facing a wet "caser".
I had the ZX Spectrum with the rubber keys. I spent all day Christmas Day and til lunch-time Boxing day inputting this programme and at the end of it all it did was draw the outline of a Union Jack then colour it in!!
My Mum and Dad were laughing their heads off because it kept me quiet for so long and that's all i got!

watch it fucker....you and your ameoba games machines PAH.
Ok, lets face it the amiga could kick piss out of a speccy, they are of different generations and you clearly pissed santa off a treat that year. As an Atari St owner (and caretaker, mucker-outter and vet) I am honour bound to make fun of the amiga, and ignore the fct it made every decent special effects shot on tv until Linux took over.

also loved any of these:
err...i mean these:
I used to be interested in those for as long as it took me to work out where each of the lcd "animation" cells were, then I got bored with actually playinh.....I'm like that...weird.
PS I think maybe the union jack program was in the back of te speccy manual.

Clever I will accept.
All growed up? fuck RIGHT OFF!
Iforgot two other important toys.....me mum's hifi (which bore the brunt of my early (aged 8) experiments in recording, and feedback manipulation) and my Granny's piano, which taught me that if you can make anything other than a total cacophony...SOMEONE will be impressed (later I heard NO and realised that even cacophony avoidance was not strictly mandatory)
Lego (fab because I get to play with it again now we have kids) Spirograph and probably a shaker maker and a family treehouse if I had been bought one. - I was a very badly done to child!

My parents got all of my old Matchbox cars out for LITTLEINOIL to play with at the weekend. They're all RUINED - I've smashed all the windows, scratched the paint off, removed doors and roofs. Wanton destruction all round. Don't seem to have pulled any wheels off though.

mine is an original steiff teddy, and he growls when you shake him. he'd be worth a lot more if my ever so thoughtful mother hadn't taken the metal button out of his ear, but i still love him.
Stylophone - mine was all white and silver! Yamaha keyboard on very thin plastic legs which snapped within weeks My Brothers Action man sitting on Barbies horse (she had the tank).

Lego Tinker Toys Model airplanes Baseball bat, ball, glove

And that would be a quadruple entendre, if I'm not mistaken...
Barbies... Mom only let me have three, because I kept turning them into psuedo-Wendy O Williams ala Reform School Girls.
Lite Brite, Atari, Amiga, NES, and a very beloved Simon.
Too many chemistry sets to name!
A bunch of the Real Ghostbusters figurines.
All my brother's Star Wars hand me downs.
I was also pretty keen on electronics. I could sit in my room all day playing with an old dead calculator or radio or whatever. I loved taking stuff apart and trying to put it back together or even just amassing large amounts of "push buttons" and pretened they blew up stuff around the world.
I also had a little synth to eek out songs on, and a drum set I never quite got the hang of, and my Dad's guitar. Which I broke. Because I tried to play it like a violin. Which is why they paid for me to have violin lessons and not break their adult stuff again.

What, global chaos? Dogs and cats, living together... mass hysteria!
It's probably for the best we was separated by an ocean, though, for the well being of everyone else around us. ![]()
The other "toy" I had was on the weekends when Dad would work on his car - I'd get to sit quietly and hand him tools and get greasy with axle slop and in general get out of doing cleaning by having father daughter hangout time. Ahhh, I loved whirling the ratchets around, especially. Made such great noise. Even better as a sample, so when I'd fart around on the synth later on, it'd be pre-saved and made all sorts of nasty fart-like sounds in the right octaves.
Come to think of it, for a good year after I got that thing, the sampler on it was exclusively used to make rude noises - due to my room being across the hall from the bathroom. ![]()
There's not a domestic sampler in existence that wasn't used for burps and farts. I had a casio sk10, that had this auto repeat function....you put it in the corner of the room and as soon as anything hit the trigger level, it played a merry tune with a little grab of it. Deeply hilarious when unleashed on a room full of wasted people, especially since after it's first appearance all it ever gets to work with is stoned giggles. OK I was 25 but it was still a toy. The hifi was my fave toy...I used to plug mics into it and play the feedback ( which I'm still known to do, only with FX units not mics....for instance the odd Dr who noise right at the start of the cozzietune), I'm fairly sure I also deduced, but forgot for many years, the nature of sound on sound recording, by taping up the erase head in the cassette deck. Spent a lot of time audio taping TV shows cos VHS was still a myth here in bog Ireland.
Oh...I also used to play with my grannies sewing machine...a huge iron singer with a foot treadle....it made noises and motions FAR to simmillar to a steam loco not to be appealing. I can't believe I can play a bass after the number of times I squished my fingers in that thing.
Steve Campbell wrote:

We'd just gotten our first VCR around the time I got that grotty synth, and I wasn't allowed to operate it so I would sit down and audio tape the shows.. little me thinking that I'd get the same enjoyment from Thundercats or Saturday Night Live or whatever at a later date with.. a cassette recording.
Nothing beats replaying those tapes and hearing radnom stuff like my brother talking over the intro, or a fart, or Mom calling us to dinner.. I dunno.. treasures the lot of them ... doomed to be used for malicious intent on some bad album in the future if I have my way. ![]()
I never grew out of that sound of a half heard TV show. SNSS always had a walkman on stage full of tvshows or movies to just fade in and out at random moments.
Mind you if it wasn't for people like us, many an episode of the Dr would be gone forever...lots of them have been put back together with production stills and off air audio tapes.
BTW.... never seen lite brite before...but I did spend a hell of a lot of time seeing just how many batteries it took to make an LED finally give up......impressive too....they get as bright as welding arcs before they pop.
I was So that kid that played with a toy for a week....then disected it.
speaking of toys, i just got a turntable and a usb preamp, so i can pulg it into a computer and transfer my vinyl, but so far i have not had much success. i can't even hear the record over the computer yet, but i will struggle on tomorrow. any tips there cambo.

You can't hear it at all or you cannot hear it over the noise of the fans?
it IS an RIAA preamp isn't it?
If it's using it's own bizarre software, stop it, see if it appears in the windows multimedia control panel as an input device, set it as the default input device and record with the windows sound recorded (they still bundle that little shitepile for your 300 quid?), or something good like audacity.
Prince Pro tennis racquet 1984. not a toy. but began life alongside the other toys under the Chrimbo Tree.

Melly- same with the ratchets' sound and the quality time w/ dad. There was Mechano from my brother- bless him and his friends, but mostly getting on the bike to got off somewhere. and taking the bike apart piece-by-piece to clean it after a day in the rain.
Disco Roller Boots- I thought I was the coolest chick on the block in these.
BMX Flyer- A really addictive hand held game. Me, my brother and sis used to fight like mad over this.
Barbie- I had loads of these but didn't have 'Ken'. I did have two Michael Jackson dolls though (complete with thriller outfits)so my Barbies all dated Jacko.
I'm still not quite sure why I had two Michael Jackson dolls though ![]()
