Greatest guitar solo for me is Radiohead - The Bends.

Didn't the US army loop this one on prison loudspeakers in order to break terror suspects for interrogation? I remember reading bitchy comments from Metallica trying to defend it saying there is far worse but.... I dunno :uhoh: I suppose it doesn't reflect well on your band when your music is used by your own government to basically torture people.

Personally, I'd have broken within 30 seconds and confessed anything :jawdrop:

Nah man Metallica are one of my favourite bands I love them, I could listen to Enter Sandman over and over, it would be good, far from torture.

That did happen, but Metallica were furious and demanded they stop it.

Was this before, during or after they tried (pretty actively) to sue all their fans simply for downloading and listening to MP3s of their songs?

ABSOLUTELY!! "Maggot Brain" just melts my brain every time I hear it Eddie Hazel was incredible

Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover of "Little Wing"

Clash's "Complete Control" - short, stunning guitar solo in the middle of one of the best singles ever

Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower" - three solos in one: straight, slide+echo, wah-wah, absolutely staggering

Motorhead's "Ace of Spades"?

And how about that bonkers Van Halen solo in the middle of Jacko's "Beat It"? Neatly parodied in "Weird" Al Yankowich's "Eat It" where the guitarist explodes at the end of the solo! H
