baseball and dollar hotdogs

My boyfriend, in an effort to make up with me after a falling out, is taking me to see the Phillies vs Whomever tonight, because it's dollar hot dog night. Unfortunately he forgot that it's the most boring game ever and I hate it.

Anyway, what does one do at a game? Especially when one's mobile internetting device is broken. How long does the torture last? Is there something to take advantage of aside from dollar hotdogs?

i'm sure they sell beer or other alcoholic beverages there.

i've never been to a baseball game, but i don't think you actually watch the game. i think the point is to eat lots of food, drink a lot, and maybe catch a flyball.

I don't drink beer, and i don't think they sell clear liquor. This will have to be a SOBER INTERNETLESS experience.

How can I deal? And why isn't there an emoticon of a smiley hanging himself??

Do what my sisters might do (and did with me) take a book or hey get said hot dog.

That Phily park has great food-Geno's Steaks or another one of the local steak institutions. A "Schmitter" The Cheesesteak with salami meats and heart stopping stuff. just rememeber the calories do not count!!

Look for The Philles mascot-The Philly Phanatic. Looks like a giant Muppett. He is actually quite fun and a real hoot

ok hey I am trying anything to help you on your forced baseball death march!!

i always thought basketball was the most boring sport ever. or the game i watched was. How a game which lasts 48 playing minutes can be spanned out to nearly 3 hours is shocking

All american sports seem very stop start...Netball is no exception. Even US motor racing spends more time behind a pace car on the average day on a no braking, left turn only track, than F1 manages in monaco in the pissing rain. If I could be arsed I would read up on the histories of these sports that are popular there (rounders, netball and poof-rugby) and see if they had more flow originally...maybe the stop start stop nature of them has been influenced by TV advertising needs?

the answer would be: yes.

I mean...see if you can rationalize the following..both incidents in one season....

At motegi, 3 drops of rain appear on an in-car camera in a lap....pace car for 10 laps. Few months later at cleaveland there's 3 inches of standing water and 8 cars in the wall...not even a local yellow....madness. (sorry CART IRL and NAScar are the only Us sports I know ANYTHING in depth about...hehehe dale earnheart LOLOLOL)

I fucking HATE Genos.

  1. They are all "omg fry mumia" with all of those pro danny faulkner badges and tshirts. It's sickening
  2. even worse they serve the worst cheeseteaks in all of south philly. (being half dago from south philly myself I can testify to this in a court of law)

The Philly Phanatic is a different color now innit he? I forget, but I don't care about biesbol. :)

I'm also taking the friggin subway there which is great for not having to park, but ass for getting back to meet my regional rail in center city.

It *is* a first world country in comparison to England (especially the north), but I wouldn't say it kills ;)

Short story, in England, I was so annoyed with low level of service and how English people didn't complain enough "Oh there's a hair in my soup, no worries I'll eat around it". blah blah blah, taking it up the ass with a spikey thing and saying "thanks" afterwards.

Then when I visited friends up your neck of the woods, all they talked about was how English people did nothing but complain about everything, which frankly I didn't see.

We went out to eat and it took 15 minutes for our order to be taken and another 30 to get the food. I was livid, and said something... oh boy that was funny.

So the thought of coming up there for more than a day or so is terrifying.

LOL tis true, we think the English are whinging fuckers, Particularly Londoners, tho it's probably understandable, they've got all the cool city stuff to play with, but also the horror of perpetual grey. Northerners and Wlesh people are a lot easier to deal with ( remember I work (in theory) in a national call centre), you can even swear back at them without getting sacked. ALTHOUGH Wales and the North chuck up a few major whiners to balance the books. It's really good manners gone mad for both lots (us and the Engerlanders). I would say for myself that I would never complain as long as I thought the potential complainee had made an effort.

It's like if the food's late, but the waiter actually gives a shit when he asks if everything was OK, I'd let it go, but if he sounded like he was asking cos somone had yanked a string in his back, I'd go off on one. But then, I hold doors open for strangers. Got a couple of funny looks in Manc cos I hel a door open for this elderly Indian lady and helped her off the coach with her bags...I suppose they thought the paddy was gonna mug her :D

In truth it's not this end of the green isle you need to visit.... I've sat at a bar in donegal with a red setter at the next stool drinking guiness from a saucer on the bar (the dog!) and I've seen horses poking their heads in to shops in Kilkenny. The best in NI was up in Cushendall, we were on a "spend the ill gotten gains of the last gig" day out, and one of the girls bought a bottle of wine...realising she had no method of gaining access, she went into the bar next door to the booze shop...they didn't have a corkscrew...result, 7 or 8 pissed old boys having a discussion on the best alternatives in inconphrensible (even to us) accents....I could hear Banjos is all I'm saying.
