Spending time in the bathroom

Well, thought I'd mention I'm on leave and finally fixing up the master bathroom. Story behind it: three years ago bought our house and I hated the master bath, so I did the obvious thing. . .I tore everything out of it. The tub, toilet, counter, sinks, cabinets, light fixures, if it wasn't a part of the wall it was torn out. After doing this I realized that there were more important things to do, and so we've had an empty bathroom for 3 years. My wife is excited, as she really misses having more than one bath in the house.

Just tore out the window, cut a larger hole in the stucco, and will be putting in the glassblock tommorrow. Next couple days will have me tearing out a wall, moving the plumbing/elect in the wall, putting in a spa tub, tiling, and all the other good stuff. Crossing my fingers as alot of this stuff I haven't done before.

well that's that, not that anyone here cares, but hey, now you know. . .and knowing is half the battle.

Nah, I can relate to the bathroom sagas. We moved from a house with two bathrooms to our current one that has one (or did have). With two teenage daughters that's not much fun! We recently knocked out a wall to make a new master bedroom with an ensuite. It makes such a difference. Now I'm in heaven.

Makes you wonder how we survived as kids though, growing up in
a house with 6 people and one bathroom - ahhh, those were the days!!

Why the need for two bathrooms? I guess it is nice when four people in a house. But, my parents' house was kind of similar, except instead of a knocked-out bathroom space, they had a make-shift kitchen until I was about nine or ten. I don't remember the exact details, except for that the oven was old, my parents stapled cloth to the walls because there was no wallpaper, and they washed dishes in the bathtub. When they finally re-did the kitchen, it was a nice change.

i was about to think of some loo humour, but i won't go there. i will say that in another former life of mine i was a ceramic tiler and we did may bathroom renovations.

Maybe you could help Mick with his kitchen then... Or we could tile the shed... We could do with a splash-back...

To me it's not a big deal, but to my wife it's everything. Not only that, but I've had this spa tub I bought 3 years ago just hanging around in my garage, so I think she's looking forward to that as well.

As an update, put the glass block window in yesterday. Looks great, today I think I'm knocking out one of the interior walls. I'll try to post some pics when I get a chance.

NOOLigan, tiling this time around will be a bit different for me. I have these irregular shaped tiles, so I can't use the nice little spacers like I've used in the past. Guess I have to draw lines in the floor. Plus I'll be running them in the diamond pattern, vs. the normal horizontal pattern. Bit nervous about the whole thing, but then that's what makes this fun. . .getting over the nervousness and getting a great finished product. Any advice on the diamond pattern or irregular shaped tiles?
