In July, Roger Waters is playing Hyde Park, playing the whole of Dark Side Of The Moon. Erm... Why? Is this man, regarded by many as one of the most talented musicians ever, so creatively bankrupt that he has to resort to playing an album which is 30 odd years old to get the fans in. What a cunt. I mean even when I saw Mccartney he even played a couple of 'new' songs.

He's just written an opera so all his creative juices have probably gone into that.

So why doesnt he go and play the fucking opera then?

I don't think that would pack out Hyde Park.

Why does he need to play Hyde Park? If his opera was any good, he'd be taking that out on tour.

It's been doing well in Europe, from what I've heard.

Maybe he's cashing in on renewed interest through Live 8?

There's a lot to say about PF,with or without Syd! Just like NO they have lost their first "frontman" and leader and they have started a new creative carreer with success. In a way the two band 'stories have some similarities. I really like PF with Syd and i'm still a Barrett 'Fan. PF albums are good, they have written some of the best rock material from 1966 to ....1980! Their work , after "The Wall" will not be reminded by Rock History. And Gilmour! WOOOWWW!!!

and w/ INXS, was thinking that also. Pink Floyd influenced many people and filled many stadiums along the way. but by chosing to play stadiums, think , in a sense showed that they were chasing the $ instead of the music. some excellent lyrics and tunes tho.

What about NO doing a JD set?

BTW I've a decent bootleg of Sir Paul's gig here from October. From the taper's very own machine.

Problem is, a band of their size can't really do Brixton Academy, due to the production of the show or public demand. I'm sure Waters is happy with the cash he'll get from Hyde Park. So much for hating stadiums.:evil4:

But if they were that good, they wouldnt need to play big venues just for the production of the shows.

All bands should get up, play their songs, shut the fuck up apart from the odd witty comment, and get the fuck off without any encores.

True, but light shows and the Floyd go hand in hand. Even in the days of Syd.

What Waters should do, if his opera is shit (which i daresay it is) is get rid of all the bullshit, and play a set of songs he wrote as a solo artist in The Royal Albert Hall (or similar venue) like Gilmour did. Dont see Gilmour living off past glories. And Waters was supposed to be the gifted one!

Good points (well, bar the last one). Waters has always been seen as the lyricist who had to take over from Syd. The talented ones are Gilmour and (some say) Syd.

Over the past few years, I've gotten the impression that Waters is still bitter about Gilmour and co taking the Pink Floyd name and recording two commercially successful albums, while his have floundered. The move to play DSOTM is probably his attempt to assert his importance in the Floyd story.

can't really equate quality to the size of venues they play though. Just the different direction that the groups go.

Pink Floyd has flying pigs on wires for effect and NO complains about any effects the lighting might give. New Order are there for the bass, drums tunes instead of the light show.

I've tried to get into Pink Floyd but I just find them boring. I do love Radiohead though

used to like Pink Floyd back in junior high, personally i really only like the Syd Barrett stuff anymore, though Meddle would strike me as the best album... The Wall still has a few tracks that grab me with nostalgia.

Dark Side of the Moon is vastly overrated, just Alan Parsons playing in the studio with loads of financial backing to fill up an album because Pink Floyd didn't have much in the way of songs written.

Pink Floyd is basically a producers band and have very few actual songs because Waters basically has few ideas in the long run. I liked Waters angst filled lyrics as a 14 year old, but I've found him pretty replusive for many years and a horrible song writer for the most part. Water's first solo album should rank as one of the worst albums ever, but i think people have forgotten about it.

...then the resurrection of the Pink Floyd francise by Gilmour for cash is one of the most crass (if most profitable) exploitations in rock history, almost like a traveling stage show like Lord of the Dance. they had two big football stadium shows in my city and i doubt even half the people attending even knew who Roger Waters was

i must agree that JD/NO is pretty much the polar opposite of Pink Floyd's arena product

Have to disagree with you there. I thought that there was a necessity to the resurrection. The Division Bell album still stands up for me as a fantastic album, as it explores the ambivalence Gilmour feels towards Waters after all the shit that was thrown at them.

Necessity? Was their fuck. It all comes down to egos. Waters acted like a twat to the rest of them 25 years ago, Gilmour has never got over it.

So it explores the "ambivalence" between Waters and Gilmour? Who, in reality, gives two shits?

Which is what fuels great art.

Yes, because Gilmours and Waters' respective solo careers are glittered with success and classic work.

We agree on something then!

Amused to Death is an underrated album. Suprised Waters never toured it, and On An Island is essential for any Pink Floyd fan.

Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking is my fave of their solo projects. Then again it is the only one I have heard.

That was written by Waters along with The Wall. He presented both to the band, and they chose The Wall instead.
