Are there any good movies that you feel like you've missed out?

The thing about the Mission was the whole cinematic experience which is lost on small screen. The soundtrack is awesome but the photography is superb. Very moving.

SP Ryan is well worth watching for precisely the same reasons..... if you can overlook the hollywood treatment to the 2nd world war. Tom Hanks best film. Green Mile is close.

It's quite late here in world-famous Ironbridge and most-of-the-way-down-a-bottle-of-wine so probably best to stop reading here!

Are we talking films we must see/see again because (a) they're "classic", "ahead-of-their-time", "ground-breaking" (Kane) (b) enjoyed them so much we gotta see them again? (Withnail) (c) friends say we gotta see them? (Out Of Africa? - big mistake; any Arnie film except Terminators 1 and 2 and Total Recall - big mistake; anything with Costner - HUGE mistake) (d) friends say they're crap and since their taste is crap it's pretty certain we'd enjoy them? (Kane and Withnail plus Schindler, dozens of others) (e) some review said we gotta see them? (Memoirs of a Geisha - see Farewell My Concubine or Red Sorghum instead)

Anyone see Before Sunrise or Before Sunset? First was wonderful, I gotta see sequel.

Coen Brothers, seen them all, none less than excellent Apocalypse Now - absolutely, mind-bogglingly exhilarating on the big screen Goodfellas, LA Confidential, Ronin xlnt White Chicks - just bought dvd for my daughter who's seen it 6 times: dumb but terrific fart gags

Citizen Kane BEST FILM ever made on so many levels. Seen it on TV probably a dozen or more times, and twice recently in cinema releases of restored print made in early '90s. Have to admit to buying both US and UK dvds.

Other BEST FILMs ever include several Kubricks, several Hitchcocks and almost anything by Kurosawa - Throne Of Blood (based on Macbeth), Seven Samurai (plot nicked for Magnificent 7, Hidden Fortress (princess-on-the-run plot "re-imagined" for Star Wars - or Jean Renoir.

you will go 'whoah!' during the normandy sequence. then you'll be slowly deflated.

Have to agree with you on your point about The Mission, I remember being quite taken upon leaving the theater after viewing it.

Never got around to see King Kong.
