Not sedate, just generally too stoned to stand up. I stopped going to Spiritualized gigs when they got too popular and there wasn't enough room for everyone to sit down. Best live band in the universe circa 1992-1995.

so that explains it. 
too bad i was left out of all the fun, then.
i can't remember who the opening band was, but the bassist just stopped playing and wandered offstage in the middle of a song. he had to be guided back on and set back in place.
ahh..'Sit Down' in nightclubs, those were the days.
They should have renamed it 'cover your arse in shit' though :\ohwell:

Never been to NYC, so can't comment that.
And it's not just at NO gigs, either!
The indie sort, they don't like to muss up their clothing. There's some sort of points system for who can be the most statuesque by the end of the night. Must be no fun to be them. 
Then at regular clubs, the girls don't dance because they are too busy checking out the guys who aren't dancing and both pairs of them are waiting for the other one to order the coolest drink or something.
Not all of NY is like that, but there's enough of a precedent to make one feel like a freed ape running around a school of timid children at the zoo when you are up for a good bodyshake.
There's clubs/people here in Houston that run the same.
I think places oughta stop watering their drinks down. It's proven the drunker you are, the higher the probability of you making a fantastic dancing jerk of yourself. Not that I, uh, you know, have done extensive research or anything on the subject. :shy:

I was at this show, and to what i see a great amount of people were dancing. Or maybe i was too busy dancing to have noticed.The ones that wouldn't were probably just too old to dance.
