The England local elections are on today; a great chance to send a message to the Labour govt (be it positive or negative).
I'm usually a Labour voter, but until Blair leaves I'm voting green (as he got us into Iraq under false and dubious pretences).
Are you gonna vote? If not, why not?
I often thought, there would be a better turnout if the polling booths were in pubs. Least u lot can vote for real parties.

Just voted- Labour for me, shame on this government, but i'd never vote in protest and risk letting the others through the backdoor!
Even though where i live, Labour have never got in!
My polling station is right next door to the roughest boozer for miles around, so no chance of me getting distracted from voting... Will certainly be using my voice, and, as usual, doing do about 5 minutes before polling closes...

Completely slipped my mind on the way to work. What time are the polls open till tonight? Is it 10pm? Be pushing it to get home for then but the polling station is a happy clappy church along the road from me, so it's not like I have to venture any distance.

Yes, especially if you have tossers like the BNP standing - all votes are worthwhile...
Luckily, they're not standing in this ward, but you can't honestly complain about Council taxes/services if you don't bother to vote, can you?

Local Elections are, for me, a complete waste of time. The big story of this year are the BNP (will they win 20 seats? like it makes much difference if they will) or how much Labour will collapse. What, with a meagre three years before the next election. Local government does nothing of any importance, and these election are nothing more than a glorified opinion poll.
For the record, I spoiled my ballot paper.

Thanks for reminding me Nick. Next time a council tenant rings me screaming about something, i'm going to ask them if they've voted first.

Local Politics is much more significant to our everday being than national.
Look around you where you live? Parks, rubbish, schools, roads,sports,localcommunitites,education,training,environment,housing, etc..........Erm, local politcs is a glorified opinion poll? Don't think so mate.
Of course it matters if BNP win only 1 seat. It's still enough to know that they are growing in strength as a political force, be it small, 1 seat is always going to be 1 seat too many!

What difference does a local election make when all my services are delivered by the Metropolitan Borough Council, which is voted in at a general election (I think) ?

Parks, Rubbish, Schools, Local Communities, Training, Envirmonment, Housing etc will all still be there next week, and there will be no noticeable change.
And if the BNP win 1 seat it will actually be a drop in support for them.

The BNP aren't a threat politically never have never will be, what they gonna do if they get in?? kick all asylum seekers and ethnics cum terrorists out? hardly they haven't got the clout or the brains behind them to mount ayhting signifiacant.
only people who seem to vote for the BNP who i know are people with racist leanings and people who aren't bothered enough to get involved with politics and just go for an easy vote because they promise to do something about asylum seekers etc.
but this is just my opinion.
Hope zero BNPers get in; I think it does matter as racists think they've got mainstream support when the BNP win.
