Couldn't sleep the other night, got up and there was a "soccer" match from the states, DC United versus Noo Yoik. DC scored and the celebration was as follows;

  1. Goal scorer runs over to dug-out on his own,
  2. there he is handed a can of Red Bull,
  3. he holds it up to the side of his chin and gives a cheesy smile to the camera.
  4. He opens the can, takes a small mouthful then
  5. when scene is over spits it out and throws the can off the pitch.

If ours gets booked for taking a shirt off, he should be shot.

Incidentally anyone who enjoys Boston Pilgrims on Soccer a.m. ought to watch one of these because the commentary is equally ridiculous throughout the match - a slide tackle was referred to as a "Sliding play". Bloody nonsense, should take the football franchise off the septics. :)

this was it..

BERN: A player in Switzerland’s top division has been left without a finger after a goal celebration went horribly wrong.

Servette midfielder Paulo Diogo was forced to have his left ring finger amputated on Sunday after catching it on a perimeter fence during his side’s 4-1 win at Schafthausen.

The 29-year-old Swiss-Portuguese player jumped up on the fence in celebration after setting up his team’s third goal.

Diogo, who got married recently failed to notice, however, that his wedding ring was caught in the metal barrier and severed the top two joints of the finger as he jumped back down.

He was then shown a yellow card for his excessive celebration.

Doctors at a Zurich hospital were unable to re-attach the finger joints and advised the amputation of the remaining stump

Still, he should count himself lucky it wasnt his arse.

oh, PS. Schafthausen :evil4:

I thought use of the word septics was barred. Fucking limey fags.

Also, Red Bull New York has to be the worst name of a team ever.

Must apologise for my long running preconceptions. I always thought you knew nothing about Man City, how wrong could I be? :)

Saw a training video at work a couple of years ago. What happened there was his ring got caught and it stripped all the skin and flesh off the finger - nice close up photos of a hand and instead of a finger there was raw bone and a few sinews. Up at the top where the nail should be was all the skin scrunched up and held in by the ring. Eew!

Somewhere I've got one of these vids from the 1970's/80's era of a game on an Old Trafford-type mudbath where a striker rounds the keeper with the ball on the edge of the area and then strokes it in towards the goal. The striker peels away towards the corner flag with his arms spread and a 'candy from a baby' look on his face lapping up the adoration from his fans.

Meanwhile, the ball had actually got stuck in standing water just before crossing the line into the net..!
