I heard it somewhere that the employees (paricularly those working in banks) don't wear their uniform on Fridays cause it might be a bad advert considering many go to pubs straight after work. Is that true?
I notice it still seems to be OK for the CEo to chuck half a pound of Columbian up each nostril by 10am....or for that mater I bet THEY can stil have as much wine as they like at high power corporate binges. Load of shite. Doesn't affect me, pubs are closed at 0300 when i get me lunch, but yeah, load of shite.

A lot of companies have a "dress down day" on fridays, I never thoguht before that this may be why. hmmmmm.
Well, have to say it doesn't affect me directly, cos I don't get long enough at lunchtime to get to the pub, never mind have a pint... But as a point of principle it's shocking news - obviously getting trolleyed and being incapable of working after lunch is not on, but a pint or two

I sometimes have to wear a full 'site' uniform, with branded top, trousers, safety boots, etc. Last year, after a hard day, I called into the pub to meet my friends for one after work and got totally harassed by this pissed up weirdo about the Council's shortcomings. I'm stood there with a huge glass of red in my hand, explaining that i wasn't in work, i was in the pub, and didn't even work in that department. Half an hour later, after signalling to my friends, i managed to get away. Needless to say i never wear uniform to the pub anymore.

loads of firms in our Building wear Casual Clothes on a Friday. we are not allowed to, unless it comic relief day or something. which is money for Charideee!!!
(not sure about the pub bit though)

Which is why I'm already home ready for a beer in half an hour......suckers

lollers. I wear casual clothes unless meeting with a client or potential candidate or something. office is casual, except that you can only wear sneakers on fridays. it doesn't make a lot of sense to me either, but I guess if you wear khakis and a polo everyday (for a guy) it looks better with shoes if you get called out to somewhere important than with sneakies.
i like looking at guys in shirts and ties though, very secksi
Luckily there's no such thing in Brazil. I just had a beer and a caipirinha with my lunch. To avoid problems I don't drink with my bosses. That's the rule that I made for myself.

Nice to see that Ian McCulloch is not the only Engerlish who enjoys a good caipirinha. 
I just had a glass of Stella with my lunch today, and I must say it puts me to sleep for the rest of the day, I'm not productive AT ALL.
I used to be able to drink a lot more than that, guess I'm no longer used to it.
Since I got promoted to Didsbury last April,I've been going out most days for a cheeky pint,because there's some top pubs in Didsbury.But I'm a bit conscious about doing my advisory bit on the public side of the PO counter smelling like Oliver Reed. But there's nothing in print about going out for one,just forbidden to drink alcohol in the post office.
When I first started working, it was quite normal to go for beer every lunchtime. At one company I worked at, most of the team were very heavy drinkers – five or six pints in an hour at lunchtime and the same after work would not be unusual, apart from on Fridays when we would have a longer lunch and drink more.
One afternoon, straight after a typically boozy lunch, there was a bomb alert and the office was evacuated. By the time we were let back in, at around 1630, one guy was asleep in the toilets of the pub, two had gone home and four of us had managed thirteen pints. After another hour in the office (we daren’t even touch our computers) we went back to the same pub and carried on.
It all got very nasty for me around this time. I was drinking like this most days and going out most evenings too. Needless to say, I ended up in a terrible mess financially and mentally. Thankfully, no lasting physical harm seems to have been done (apart from a slightly bent nose that I ‘earned’ in a nightclub late one night).
Those days are long behind most of us, thankfully. I can’t imagine what would happen if someone walked in to any office with that much beer inside them these days. Apart from on Fridays, of course. Our team regularly pile to the pub next door on Fridays, and nobody seems to mind. Our local sells the most beautiful Kronenburg, and after an embarrassing afternoon in a planning meeting recently I had resolved to make three pints my limit. Now they’ve started selling Becks Vier, which is only 4% and nearly as nice as Kronie. I seem to be able to carry the afternoon quite nicely after a Vier session, so the good tradition will be preserved for now.
Most of the people I work with have families or live out of town so it’s hard to organise for us all to attend a night out. Friday lunch is the one time that we can all get together and relax and I am sure we are a happier team for it.
I've not found a bar on this oil rig yet though...
