Downloaded all four of Radio 4's albums (only got one yesterday, cos it's only been released today) over the past couple of weeks. They're supporting New Order in Athens so thought I'd check them out. Have to say, they're absolutely soooperb, can't believe I knew nothing about them before. Got tickets to see them in London now as well, day before I fly to Greece.
Mind you, also downloaded another support act (Hooverphonic) and that's the biggest pile of pretentious w&nk I've listened to in years. Sounds like a bunch of art school kids trying to be 'clever'.
ummm... Upper Room are quite good. Mystery Jets as well, although they sold out by starting to write songs in English rather than Latin. I think i saw a band called Metro, with a song called Poster Girl, they were quite good.
Kristeen Young is one that stands out for me. been supporting Moz recently and she's brilliant.

I've only recently noticed the website of an undiscovered band from Portsmouth called Trust No One on these forums.
Absolutely fresh, intense and realistically euphoric synth-rock with a strong New Order and Depeche Mode flavouring.

saaw them supporting bell x1 a few months ago - thought they were a local student band!

Battle.
Got two unnamed tracks from a mate on a compilation. Found nothin else from them on Soulseek. Playin a free gig at The Buff Club in June though.

Again, on the same compilation from my mate. Downloaded more stuff but not listened to it yet.
The Infadels
Totally diggin their "Love Like Semtex" track. Downloaded the rest of their album. UTTER SHITE. Sounds like one of those dodgy house/indie crossover acts of the 90's like Sunscreem or Kosheen.
Mistys are good. much better than Guillemots who they were supporting. Very thick brummie accents though.
Polytechnic. Great new Manchester, destined for big things. Theyve supported Doves in the past
A few of the bands participating in Community 2 have superb original material...
Really... I was forced to listen to them because of course I'm doing the radio shows, but some bands does really sound great.
Of course, they are indie mostly... I don't know if any band other than Flight are signed to a real label.
Project Skyward - Just got their album Strange Synchronicities, after hearing them on Pandora.com it's not that new 2004. Shine is probably the stand out track but the whole album is a pretty good accompaniment to the recent good weather we've had.
8/10.
Other than that Hot Chip. Saw them support LCD Soundsystem in December. Very impressed - 2 recent singles ahead of their as yet to be resealed(I think) 2nd album have both been minor radio hits. Over and Over, and Boy From School.

australian band,ive downloaded a few of tracks,very good.album got 9/10 in nme last week.bit of pj harvey type music in there

Kinda like Blink 182 with Mike Skinner on vocals. Throwaway, but good.
Desert Hearts
Saw them supporting Snow Patrol and at Tennents Vital 04. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just good tunes.

Not exactly new, but got his new album the other day. Very Scott Walker sounding. From Sheffield.
I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness
Austin, TX band some spacey shoegazey tunes with some slight 80's hooks but not overkill. Produced by Paul Barker (Ministry).
Black Heart Procession
Remind me of ultra atmospheric Nick Cave mixed with Calexico. Just new to me but have been around 10 years or so. Ex Modest Mouse members. Haunting.
Alex Smoke
Warm, melodic minimal tech/house. Beautiful sounds....
Band Of Horses A more textured mix of My Morning Jacket/Built To Spill. Slightly spacey. Big crescendos. Has A Neil Youngish voice and not in an annoying way. These guitars sound great. The whole album does, actually.

oh and this band, Led Zeppelin
this guy can really belt out a tune. some real toe tappers.

I did like that song although it wasn't exactly pushing the envelope.Still, not every band has to.
Noticed some band in NME last week called 586..Named after the song??
A Brummie band called Halcion. Seen them a few times; currently in a competition on Midlands Today for Rock Band of the Year; lovely kids...............prob going to play at my birthday party for eye candy for the kids!!!! great.

Firstly, I have seen them several times live; and secondly, are you prepared to dismiss a young bunch of lads because they are on Midlands Today?

I'm pretty much stuck in ways.I like a new tune once every blue moon generally,but i'm always on the lookout.Alot of heartbreak is involved.

Anyone know of The Long Winters? Heard a smart track by them yesterday - The Commander Thinks Aloud. Reminded me of The Flaming Lip.

Hard to find a decent band nowadays who manage more than 1 or 2 decent albums... maybe I'm getting old, although I still love a lot of new Dance music releases, but those acts change their names with nearly every release!

tendency is the best thing battle have done. not that impressed with anything else - saw them last year before they supported the order at brixton, they were ok...
re hot chip - i have the first album & over & over is much better than anything on it.

I've got most of their early stuff downloaded. Crap Kraft Dinners is pretty good, as are a few others. I definitely thought they sounded better live than on record. So hopefully they're on an upward curve.
