From an e-mail that came through today:

"this is just a note to say that something has been kicking around in the background that i have not told you about. its called The Eraser. nigel produced & arranged it . i wrote and played it. the elements have been kicking round now for a few years and needed to be finished & i have been itching to do something like this for ages. it was fun and quick to do. inevitably it is more beats & electronics. but its songs. stanley did the cover. yes its a record! no its not a radiohead record. as you know the band are now touring and writing new stuff and getting to a good space so i want no crap about me being a traitor or whatever splitting up blah blah... this was all done with their blessing. and i don't wanna hear that word solo. doesnt sound right. ok then thats that.

i think its out in july and im pretty certain XL are going to put it out.

love thom

So WTF has happened to the new album, which has been imminent or 'having the final touches put to it' for the best part of the last year?.. Starting recording it in July?.. Sounds like 2007, to me.

Feckers.

For me, since Kid A I have to give some credit to that Gallagher dude.

I liked everything up to and including Amnesiac, and the first track off "Thief" is good. It's just that, after that...I can't be bothered, it's too weird.

Thom once said in an interview that, after Kid A, some people would be able to keep up with the direction they were taking and some wouldn't. I was able to up to "Thief", but that doesn't mean I won't try and get the next album...whenever that comes out

Because we're talking about Radiohead, people

The direction they took reminds of Pink Floyd. And I hate Pink Floyd. For me Radiohead is Pablo Honey - OK Computer, very good albums. The other three are just foolish experiments of an unpersonalized band.

This should be interesting, I hope.

I'm also curious as to when the new RH album is coming out.

And Kid A is my favourite, but I love Hail to the Thief! The "weird"ness is right up my street. It does leave me wondering what direction the new album will take, though.
