Russell Crowe attacks Moby Updated: 22 Mar 2002

Moby has exclusively told Radio 1 about an astonishing incident when the musician first met Russell Crowe.

They were both in a Sydney nightclub, but according to Moby it wasn't a nice experience:

"I pushed the door to the men's toilet and someone pushed it back really firmly and Russell Crowe was in the toilet with his friends. He grabbed me and threw me against the wall and started berating me for being an American - he was like 'You stupid American, your country, you think you own the world'."

Moby goes on to point out Russell has had much of his success by making films in America and has dated Americans.

Then Mr Crowe sucks. Well, we already knew that, right? Just take a look at "Gladiator". :\puke:

I'm not really trying to disagree with you on everything, and I agree with you Gladiator was terrible, but Russell Crowe was very good in The Insider.

Oooh, picking a fight with Moby, how challenging. What's next, Russ - old ladies?

Russel Crowe is a tosser, and he is (mostly) shite at acting (except The Insider - agreed, Patrick). And like most famous and/or successful Australians (Nicole Kidman, Neil Finn, Phar Lap etc.), he wasn't even born here. He's a New Zealander. Not our fault! Md

I dunno, but it seems that I hear that ol'Russ has gotten himself into some mix-up about every week. This is from listening to the anti-Russ DJ (who is a female by the way) of the local 'alternative' station, on their Celebrity Sleaze segment every morning, so this doesn't surprise me. Heard this week that he confronted some guy in a restroom who recognized him cause he wasn't sure if the guy had washed his hands. Never seen one of his flicks, never plan to.

Maybe Mr Loze, but take a look at what France's #1 international actor is up these days.

Good old Jean Reno currently features in a remake of the cult 70s flick Roller Ball. A remake so shite it makes Gladiator look like a gleaming Oscar winner. Which it was.

I'm sick of all the Russ-bashing, it's pretty tired. The guy can act and yes the guy does have an attitude. And the guy fronts a pretty bad band. But, to his credit, a lot of the people he grates are part of the insidious Hollywood establishment and they deserve it.

And no Spotty, all Aussies aren't like that. For a flipside of Russ, see Hugh Jackman.

I agree .. I mean, he's not for everyones liking, but its hard to say that the man can't act ... Im not a huge fan, but he says what he wants and does what he wants ... Doesn't just put a smile on for the press if he doesn't want to ... Kind of reminds me you of New Order doesn't it ?

Yeah, that guy's pretty okay..... Moby probably happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.... maybe he should have given Russ a few tips after that TOFOG's album....it's really baaad....

No, it doesn't. But does Mickey Rourke remind you of the KLF?

I think Russell's best acting job was ignored entirely by the academy....1997's LA Confidential. He was part of an ensemble cast, but he really stood out in that film. He also shouldh've won for The Insider, Gladiator was okay but not the best film of the year.

Mr Depthcharge. I did not attack u personnaly. Or Australian people. Do u really think Russel Crowe is such a incredible actor? I dont think so. I actually did not even remember he played in "The Insider" before one of you quoted this film. Probably because i did not like that film that much. Talking about Aussies, I personnaly prefer Nicole Kidman, her acting is incredible in "The Others". And you can keep on critizing Jean Reno, I dont care, I think he is shit too.

Mandingo, I was referring to the fact that like Russell Crowe, New Order don't always come off cheery and fake to the press and in interviews like many other musicians/actors do ... You probably haven't seen the order in an interview before ....

It's fair to say I might have read the odd NO interview in the last 20-odd years of being a fan (I have also met them) - I just think your statement is redundant, that's all. If you want an analogy for Russ in the music world, I would have thought Liam Gallagher would be closer to the mark.

I think Russ has fallen victim to the classic Aussie "Tall Poppy" syndrome, it wa always going to happen.

Of course I knew that, but everyone knows he's an asshole with the medias..

But well, what about Canadian actors? What do we have here that is worth mentionning.. Jim Carrey? Matthiew Perry? Donald Sutherland? Leslie Neilsen? Good old Captain Kirk? Keanu Reeves? Dan Akroyd?

There is tons of others, but not so much considered as great actors :D

The question is, who are the great actors that we can compare these people to? What is the criteria we have for selecting this? All actors make flops, and some make some great films. Is it consistency of good films, a ratio from good to bad? It is very hard to tell

Our russ has made some good (Romper Stomper, LA Confidential, A Beautiful Mind) films, and some shockers. Give him some credit, and if he wants let him be a surly arsehole, just look at the quality of the chicks he pulls. And to add to the Jean Reno debate, he was in a top film called the proffessional? Where he protects a girl that is being hunted by criminals? If you remember it it was a top one with a very unusual twist. OK now i will stop bandstanding :evil4:

Obi, are you trying to settle down things or what? :D I still dont like Russel Crow and Jean Reno's acting skkills though. Btw, It was nice to meet you at the BDO... 2 months ago (I cant believe how time is going quick)! How things are going down under?

Yeah i am, but it is all old news now. I have been busy at work saving for my journey to the UK later this year (July/August). The NO Show at the Metro was better than the BDO (a Much fuller set) and was just the thing i needed to top off that week. How have things been with you? Planning on catching NO at any of the Euro gigs? :evil4:

Well, I saw on TV a couple of days ago that he's got a band himself. Well, as I could realize, it sucks! So maybe he's upset about his own work in music. He should listen to some NO songs to get inspired and maybe FUCK OFF!
