Old World Cups are brilliant. I've watched 3 properly, 94, 98 and 2002, as well as having an over enthusiatic interest in Italia 90, (I remember being allowed to stay up late and watch the semi final, and crying when we lost).

Nice of the BBC then to put THIS Up. Highlights and full tournament reviews of fairly recent world cups.

it all comes flooding back.

Thankfully the school German exchange goes over there after the tournamanet finishes - in previous years we would have been there for the semis and final! It'll be sweet if we can win, but if we go out to Germany it could be rather an awakward week...

1990 was a good one. Ireland not sucking balls totally (and bodrhains (sp?) in the crowd), Engerland with a great tune, what more do you need. 94 and 98 were good too, but for some reason someone has deleted 2002 from my brain.

i too quite liked 1990, and not for world in motion.

They've all been great except maybe USA 94 and Japan/Korea 2002 (you probably don't remember it Steve because the games were played at 7 am in thfcukin morning or thereabouts ).

1978 had the best atmosphere ever.1990 was unforgettable

no it wasn't it was shit, was 90. Crap!!!

Mexico 86 was by far the best. Lineker Careca Laudrup Altobelli Platini Zico Enzo Schifo Butregueno (sp?) and the Soviets.

Easily the best. and that goal by Maradona against Belgium was by far one of the best goals ever in the World Cup. I'm sure he scored another good one though.

Yes, one hopes that the USA do better than last time! Although saying that, they did get to the quarter final last time, after everyone said they were going to get hammered.

Sweden 58, Spain 82, Mexico 86 were clearly the best World Cups Finals :thumb:

Pity as I wasn't born in time for Sweden 58 & Spain 82 and had no interest in football in 1986 :D

Bodhran Steve:thumb:

1990 for me too - 6 people doing the can-can(!) on a 3x1.5 table (thats 1x0.5m) in a pub on Marlboro street - Dave O Leary, Packie Bonner, Timofte, lots of beer, more beer, that was a good world cup! (the table didnt make it to the end of that night - no idea why) Were England in that world cup too? I only remember the song:evil4:

Don't talk to me about 1978!

Guess whose team this was:

Inept against Peru, shambolic tactics Even more inept against a lesser team (no offence) Iran Failed to even score their goal in that game (Iran o.g.!) AND THEN Scored one of the best World Cup goals ever, against Holland [as immortalised in Trainspotting] AND Almost caused apoplexy among their supporters by threatening to thrash Holland 4-1 and qualify for the next round (true to form they didn't)

Best thing about some of the 1970's & 80's World Cups was that you could always rely on the Scots to cock it up.
