Downloading

Limewire refuses to work on my computer. As does soulseek. Can never seem to download anything from there.

Whenever i try to download anything off limewire it just keeps saying there is a firewall blocking it, but i only have one firewall on and if i switch that off all hell will break loose on my computer.

So, any good places to get stuff from, or how i can get limewire working again?

You need to open the specific ports limewire uses, not kill off the whole firewall. As for what ports those are or how to do it on your particular firewall...I dunno.

Steve's right you have to take the minute - or 5 - and go into the Control Panel + change the port settings. The FAQ information on each respective site has the parameters that you can use. if using Windows. Task/ Change Settings. mess around and it should walk you through it. General/ Exceptions/ Advanced. Exceptions. - both options have to be set before the programs will work. EDIT- did you set up both the TCP and UDP port links in the Exceptions.

Tried that, and have created an exception. STILL cant get past the firewall. What a joke.

Coupla things come to mind..... Firstly and most irritatingly for you is the fact that if you switch to something like azureus or emule, you're gonna run right into the same problem. It's also possible your ISP firewalls that port themselves, try changing the default port that limewire uses and openning that one. It could also be that you have a third party firewall running as well the windows one, if that is the case, the windows one should be set to allow everything, and let the 3rd party one do the thinking.....don't switch the default windows one off tho, it makes things get interesting.

The limits that they recommend should be there and should work. Thinking of cancelling it because of the enslaught of tracking cookies/ spyware that is continually getting deleted. - sure that it has something to do w/ the changed settings. Don't know much about the other programs, sorry. G Luck.

You could try BEARSHARE but it's whether you'll have the same problem with the firewall.Look under GNUTELLIUMS.
