66/1 winner selhurst Park flyer in 1997 Not something you forget

Had a few 4 timers come in...Once I had four winners with £1700 riding on to a fifth which was 7/1 and it got beat.. You do the maths...ok I will..with all the double's and trebles added on it would have been in excess of 16 G's....a "Come and see what you woulda won moment"for sure. Still lifted the £1700 like,so a bit of a result on a £6 stake

I don't know what the hell happened with the above post. Software didn't feel like cooperating I guess.

I have never bet on the horses, but when I lived in So Cal, use to make trips down to baja and bet on the college and pro football.

Best I ever did was a few hundred dollars once, was never able to hit the 10 team parlays that would have paid 10K. Kept coming close with having 9 of the 10 teams cover the spread, but never able to get that last win for the payoff.

Have to love horse racing. . .I share the same name as one of the fastest race horses of all time. . .John-Henry. Got to meet him when I traveled through Kentuky. Normally they don't let anyone get within 12 feet of him, since he is a very aggressive, competitive horse, but I was able to take a picture with him, feed him and comb his hair. Cool stuff.

As for those that think these animals are treated cruelly, obviously don't know the sport. These horses are worth MILLIONS of dollars. . .no one treats an investment poorly. Once they can't race anymore, unless they are a gelding, they are worth even more money for breeding. Even if they are a gelding, they become expensive pets for the super wealthy. Plus there is a real attachment between them, thier riders and owners.

Now if we want to talk about animal cruelty for a sport, bull fighting is definately top of the list.

I quite enjoy a good race meet. I know enough to know that i know very little about from and thus stay away from the bookies. its all about watching top class racing, dressing up and drinking champagne. The horses enjoy it as well.

has a horse personally told you this? I think they do not enjoy cameras, noise, and the whip associated with horse racing.

I find it interesting how a horse's leg could break from a simple misstep. I suspect these race horses cannot bare their weight any longer. They must be overtrained and pumped up with drugs.

Been to most 'good' racecourses - York is the best for flat. Hubby managed Worcester racecourse (only the catering side of things), though it was only open for a few days a year, due to water logging....however....New Years Day at Warwick, good for a laugh and Cheltenham festival........cold and take your own, cos you will never get served and when that wind blows...........it blows cold!

off to first day of Royal Ascot.........Epsom is great; but it is usual that if a horse wins a long race at York, he is tipped for the Derby! Watch and learn. Forget the betfair forums....you heard it here first!

Now if you want to talk about the ins and outs of 'laying' bets.......ask away....you can make more money laying than playing!

Anyone into the tote ten to follow? Not on the leaders board yet..but I live in hope.

Agreed you have to watch and learn. Stayed w/ some family friends up in Queensland a few years back and it was their passion. More the obsession but still. It was all about the stats and watching who the owners were etc. Used to follow Greyhound Races a bit down in Arizona. Shame that there are casualties but what to do.
