Brandon Flowers of The Killers - has he got a big gob or what??!

Hope the thread title isn't too controversial - but really, I managed to borrow "Hot Fuss" off a pal of mine just to see what all the [hot] fuss [hee hee] was about with this band and why they are so often linked with New Order....or so the singer admits being obsessed with New Order at any rate.

But really.....not since Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet has there been a vocalist whose voice is so overpowering on every damned song that I feel like hunting him down and giving him a good slap just to shut him up! Even my missus Lorraine told me to turn off the album after about half of it (that song Somebody Told Me was just unbearable!) cos she said it was giving her migraine, the poor luv.

I have this fear that if I was to play that album in full a third time (I actually gave it two listens, which proves just how much of a sadomasochist I must be!) our two dogs would turn against me and start savageing me for inflicting such torture on them too. And they're two of the most placid beasts you will ever come across.

So, the Killers.... are they just a Foghorn-fronted Flash In The Pan or what?

Have they - god forbid - got another album in the works? I feel they have....ooer, time to go and hide I reckon..... God also forbid he (Branden Flowers) ever does a Billy Corgan and decides to team up with New Order on a future album track of theirs, I'd advise the rest of the band to wear serious ear protection and ensure their guitars, synths and drums are cranked up as loud as possible to compensate....

Mr Brightside is a good tune,but the Thin White Duke remix(sometimes called Jaques Le Cont mix) of it, is much,much better still.Its practically New Order,and I'm yet to be convinced that Hooky does'nt actually play on it,particularly the last half.Essential tune Available on Limewire..

Don't care for anything else by the Killers,and they wear white suits so must be classified tossers for that alone!

Okay perhaps maybe but if the whole song - and Hooky's bass - is going to be drowned out by THAT foghorn voice of Mr Flowers then that would render the whole exercise pointless, and besides, I dont wanna risk my two dogs and my wife tearing me to shreds!

Thought the Killers' album was decent. . .but I really hate thatone song that sings the the same verse over athousand times "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier" Not quite sure what that is suppose to mean, but I imagine it's something I wouldn't like.

Oui, oui, c'est moi! :) It was me who lumped the Bravery in with the Killers, I was drawing a comparison to their "rivalry" in a similar way to that back in the 80s when Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet were always regarded as rivals. Anyway that lyric you quoted above is pretty awful - it virtually reads like something that Spandau Ballet would have come up with....perhaps they did rip them off without realising after all.?

The Killers are one of the most overrated bands of this decade. Sure, they got a couple good songs. But that's it. And Brandon's attitude is a bit off-putting. Plus, that whole faux-feud thing with the Bravery...

As for the latter, I agree that the single is really good. The rest of the stuff is forgettable.

I also have the Thin White Duke Mix, being a massive fan of techno/dance music. =) I quite like it, but I prefer the original.

They got their name from the video clip of New Order's "Crystal". It's on the drummer's drum set.

Its the 12" Thin White duke mix you want 8:45 mins long....so much more going on in the tune than an overbearing vocal. The short version is a bit pants to be honest.

Can Jack confirm or dispell whether the old man is playing on it?? Thought you might have put us out of our misery by now Jack!

Whuppeeee!! Eh Boatraceface - I have at last managed to track down a file of that extended mix of ThinWhiteDuke whatsisname that you were going on about and given it a listen.

And, despite old Dandy Foghorn taking a bit of a back seat the track isn't much cop to be honest with you. Hooky bass sounds rather generic - does Hooky really only know one way of playing his bass? Or is it really a clever impostor who has his technique and sound down to a tee?

I have always hated the backing vocals on this song and this terrible off key carabet car crash hasn't changed my mind one bit.

This has to be one of the worst ever performances of the song by the band ever - and they really should know better than to give us this embarassing spectacle. As if Brandon fronting his own band isnt bad enough, we get treated to.......this! Shocked me to the core - you bloody bet they did.

truth. watching the original video is painful enough. Eck ! My Neck ! What ?! you don't know who JD Fortune is. Crushed. new lead singer for INXS can sing, is CANADIAN , has a mean hand with a smudge of black eyeliner. And it's just uncanny how many tour updates or playing some charity Katrina benefit or other that I trip across in the papers.

I'm sorry 14K but I never knew who JD Fortune was. I don't care much for INXS either so that probably explains why. In fact I am so oblivious to those rubbish Aussie rockers I never even knew when Michael Hutchence hung himself....only found out about it a year or so later.

Anyway, back to Brandon Flowers - they're on the cover of the latest NME aren't they? And I have to admit, when I saw their new "image" whilst I was at WHSmiths the other day I burst out laughing - in the shop - with a couple of people turning round and looking at me.

I take it that they're one of these bands who undergo an image change every year to promote their next album - the old New Romantic sound now presumably gives way to cowboyesque rock and roll ? Out with the suits and eyeliner, in with the leather jackets, bootlace ties and moustaches. The Killers - the new Black Crows anyone? How contrived is this band for gods sakes???
