Let's start a thread about the weird or funny facts about you :wink:

I learned something last week that I sure wasn't aware of.

Apparently I'm related to Madonna (!), and that's dead serious. I knew her mother was french-canadian, but not that close :p

So she's my cousin, but let's be real here, it's a long shot probably 4th or 5th degree. Cousin of an aunt, etc etc...

Nevertheless, I will be curious to check my familly tree once I put my hand on it (once of my uncle is doing it for years)..

I don't have anything funny, but I do have a somewhat less distant but definitely much less famous relation. Only Americans will appreciate it, though. My great uncle (mother's uncle) played RB in the NFL for 10 years (9 with the 49ers, 1 with the Cardinals). He held the 49ers team record for touchdowns, till Jerry Rice demolished it.
I have some French Canadian blood in me, so maybe I'm related to Madonna too? :)

as far as famouse relations? i have been told that i was related to george c. scott by marrage, he seems to have married a 2nd or 3rd cousin of my mothers, or something like that, not even sure its true :shrug:

I'm only 149 centimetres tall (and I stopped growing when I was 12). People think my mum and I are sisters. When I first received eyeshadow as a present when I was 6 or 7, I put it on my eyebrows! I was a premature baby, having born two months before my due date. I have an uncle who is 43 years old, who has never moved out of his mum's house to get his own flat ever in his life. I write slash fanfiction, and I've been reading such material since I was 13, and writing it since I was 14.

I am the Longest recorded labour in Bangor hospital, 43 hours. They dumped my mum in ambulance to take her to Mutantards to trail me out. I arrived in the ambulance rather than be born there ( tho the bastards still registered me there) and spent my first few minutes of life in a biscuit tin :D

During the 1828 election, his opponents referred to him as a "Jackass". Jackson liked the name and used the jackass as a symbol for a while, but it died out. However, it later became the symbol for the Democratic Party. [4]

Early Simple Minds were really good; a proper post-punk band from the late seventies/early eighties experimenting with synthesisers and new sounds as much as anyone.

They lost it a bit towards the early nineties and went into U2/stadium territory which is why they're so criminally unfashionable to like nowadays. I also think the fact they're Scottish didn't do them any favours with the overly-English music press :nonono:

New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84) is their best I would say; highly recommended and lots of quality synth work. Street Fighting Years is really good too but it's just a shame they've been panned so much recently the early work barely gets a look-in now.

They lost it (for good) around Real Life which was a bit too U2-ey for my liking.

Did the overly-English music press not push the likes of Postcard records, then we had the likes of Tallulah Gosh, Primal Scream and the Soup Dragons as mainstays of that C86 shite and subsequent to that the whole cult of the Jesus & Mary Chain.

Simple Minds earlier output was certainly perhaps more interesting and less cockrocking than later material but if you compare their output from 79-83 it ain't quite Joy Division / early New Order, now is it?!

I never said "I was there" Al and I freely admit I discovered them a good bit later on (mid-nineties) when most of their albums were laid out in front of me so I figured out which ones I liked and which were naff. Plus we had a cache of NME mags and then Q stretching from the early/mid 80s in our house which I used to read so that's where I got most of my "impression" from.

OK, poor choice of words from me, it was late last night but there was a vague reason for me saying this. I think it was to do with the fact that (at the time) the music press saw U2 as saints but branded SM as pariahs when they were both producing very similar music. Couldn't help but think the stigma there came from being Scottish wasn't as fashionable as being Irish in the rock world. Let's face it, Runrig did us no favours :lol:

I totally agree with you here but I never actually said in my post they were better than JD/NO, I was just trying to say their early stuff is pretty good.

About my unique voice:

I had a severe underbite as a child, and had to wear a (removable) device that separated my jaws from 2nd to 5th grades.

Then I wore braces from 5th to 7th grades

Now I wear retainers until my early 20s, a few years from now.

Hence, my accent continually changes. Right now, I'm improving, so no audioposts for now.

I had aspirations to be a voice-over artist, and I used to do funny things with my voice. Now, my artistic dreams go to method actor, singer, comedian.

I sure hate pop music. A: 'cause it's corny, boring, and makes me want to die. B: I can't stand female voices in the genre.

When I do sing along my CDs, I sing the sad parts high and happy to so-so emotion moods low. I like my singing voice now, but it sounds too poppy so now I'm switching to low. I sometimes wonder if I could be the female reincarnate of Ian Curtis.

I have. I'm usually the last person sober at any party, although I've had the most hard liquor. Recently, a friend and I went to a bar. He bought me two white Russians and an Absolut vanilla coke. He only had a beer and a vodka shot. I had to walk with him a bit after we left so he could sober up and drive me home.

in today's paper there was an article that said that just about everybody is related to several kings. think about it, they all had heaps of offspring.

FWIW....my granpa knew the founder of THe Pittsburgh Steelers NFL team. Played for the guy as a member of a semi-pro team long before the Steelers were founded in 1933.

and about myself? legally blind in my left eye

That reminds me. .. my father was friends with the a German fellow that worked in Hollywood and invented the camera boom (placing a camera on a crane).

The interesting part was that he had this beautiful house in Malibu that he built himself. . .a multimillion dollar house. He had stated that he would rather see the house burn to the ground than to let someone else move into it and slowly destroy it. The day after he died was when the huge Malibu fire hit (the most costly fire in US, as in dollar amount for property damage).

Always kind-of freaked me out on the coincidence.
