hello all you good, good people
came back from Denmark yesterday and after 20 hrs of sleep i think i am finally up for facing the reality (am i?)..
This years line up was awesome and there's a few to make you green with envy
The Editors (a good gig), Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (a good gig), Deus (fantastic), Sigur Ros (emotionally draining = fab), Radiosoulwax - Nite Versions (fab dj set!), Veto (my personal revelation, danish mixture of bloc party, radiohead .. mixed with robert smith's vocal! - awesome gig), Gogol Bordello (the most energetic gig i ever saw, a good one), Martha Wainwright (whinging cow)
Shout Out Louds (nice performance), Front 242 (blimey, they rock!!!, as in a industrial way:) , Rufus Wainwright (the best gig this year for me, just him and a guitar and piano, this has just blew me away),Happy Mondays (saw them in Mcr earlier this year and they were better in Manc land, Shaun has lost the plot - not that he's had it before), The Streets (were better two yrs ago, this year they were okish), Death Cab for Cutie (dissapointing), Primal Scream (a very good gig until someone from the stage people has shown the note in the middle of 'Kill all Hippies' saying 'England's Out' - Bobby was never the same again, a good one overall), Superdiscount (great dj set), Tiga (nice dance music in scoarching weather), George Clinton Parliament/Funkadelic (i never thought that funk music can do such things to me, an absolute pearler!), Phoenix (a bit dissapointing for me), Artctic Monkeys (was a chocker block and i couldn't be arsed to stand there and listen to mere band, sorry), Wolfmother (mad, 70's rock style music), The Strokes (awesome!!!!!!), Coldcut (was a bit boring after half an hour), Goldfrapp (was cancelled due to illness, yeah right! Alison probably couldn't match her hot pants with the rest of her outfit)witch!, The Racounters (nothing out of the ordinary), Kaiser Chiefs (could hear them in the background and was glad that i didn't walk all those km's to see them), Roger Water who closed the festival with 'Dark Side of the Moon' LP (absolutely must go despite the fact that i don't consider myself to be a massive Pink Floyd fan).
Finally Moz. Out of 4 gigs that i saw this one has to be the worst one. It was too early (@19.00 in boiling weather), on a main stage ( he was loads better two yrs ago in the biggest tent), and finally you could tell that he couldn't be arsed to make an effort. Three Smith's songs (Panic, Girlfriend in a Coma and How Soon is Now?), most of the crap current LP (apart from Life is a Pigsty which sounds fab live!), and great 'Irish Blood English Heart'. The whole gig lasted an hour(!!!!
and frankly fuck knows why (sorry for my language but i was really pissed off). It might be the case of Bob Dylan playing half an hour later and crowd safety ppl had to escort 80.000 people from Mozzer's show and let another lot of how many geriatrics to see Bob Dylan in. I haven't got a clue. The fact is that the gig was okish and was too short.
Those are my short reviews od SOME of the bands that i saw but it will let you see at a glance how was it. Will put some piccies later on when i manage to use my photo cars with my laptop![]()
Cheerio!
