Any laptop experts out there? We have a problem with the screen display on a ThinkPad T42, it's grown a vertical white line about 60% of the way across the screen, and it hasn't gone for 2 days. Tried everything we can think of to no avail!

I'm not an expert, but I had a white line about 4 pixels wide accross the screen of a toshiba. I took it into the shop and was told I needed to replace the screen. Something I was told would cost 600 dollars. I bought a replacement screen on ebay for 50 dollars and my guy at the time took the casing apart and switched the screen out.

Does it only appear in windows or is it also on the bios screen ,or if you boot from CD/DVD?

Its down to how much is it gonna cost you. If its upwards of £250/300 you can get a new laptop for around £300. Cant say if actually heard of this one before-i had one that had a screen that flickered,it was worn at the hinges and was cheaper to replace.

Had that with an HP laptop - it was the graphics card, worked ok after it was swopped.

Ask IBM...those things cost a fortune anyway, there's got to be something you're paying for.
