At the risk of sounding like Statto I've been getting right into soccer trivia on Wikipedia. Started with an argument with a mate about Partick Thistle ever having played in Europe (they did, UEFA Cup 73/74 season). I've now spent the last two hours checking out results from past games between such mighty European giants as Videoton (UEFA Cup runners up in 1985) KV Mechelen (UEFA Cup and Super Cup Winners in 1988) and Upjest Doza (what a name!!!) What I learned.....
Rangers competed in the first ever European Cup Winners Cup Final in 1961 (getting humped over both legs by Fiorentina
)
In season 1966/67 not only did the mighty Celts lift the European Cup but Rangers made the ECWC Final again (getting humped AGAIN
) and Kilmarnock made the semis of the UEFA (or Fairs Cup as it was)
No club ever managed to retain the ECWC though four finals between 93 and 97 saw the holder reach the final the next year only to lose.
Until CSKA Moscow won the UEFA Cup in 2005 no Russian team had ever one a European trophy.
Anybody with similar statistical based trivia feel free to post below.
