I got approached today, by an Islamic charitable organisation ollecting in aid of Lebanese people displaced by the recent campaign.
I took him to task and ended up getting into a full blown argument.
I asked him the following questions, without any decent answers.
i) Why is a Moslem charity collecting money for a largely Christian country?
ii) Why are most Moslems fundamentally opposed to Israel and its existence?
iii) Why do Hezbollah, a supposedly Shia Moslem organisation, choose to hide themselves amongst an alien (i.e. Lebanese civilian population), if Islam is so peaceful?
iv) and do you really think I'm that f_____ stupid to believe that any money i donate will go into Lebanese relief efforts?
v) What's wrong with donating to the Red Cross?
Be wary out there folks..
Mebbe I'm just being over-suspicious.. I dunno.
'Hezbollah, Nooooooooooooo, we will not let him go,'Hezbollah, Nooooooooooooo, we will not let him go, Beelzebub has a devil put aside for meeeeeeee'
I also got approached by people today asking me to donate to charity on behalf on the Palestinan people.
I told them to go fuck themselves.

Hey.. I would donate possibly, to a fund for either Palestinians or Lebanese.. Lotta sympathy there all round.
BUT.. need to know its going in the right hands. Red Cross are fine by me.
I just find it bizarre that a charity, idealogically opposed to Judaism can offer to help out a largely Christian nation.
I did ask him if such a fund was set up after 911, and he said he didn't know.

Wow, finally agree with you on something. Good actions you both took. That does sound a bit fishy.

No, I think you did the right thing in not giving anything. You have no proof of where that money is going. Although, it's probably just as likely to go towards drugs and partying that night as it is to go towards humanitarian aid... or to Hezbollah weapons for that matter.
EDIT: Also, regarding question 2, I'd venture to say that MOST Moslems have no problem with the existence of Israel. Although they might have a problem with some of the things Israelis have done against Moslems.
So persons seeking charity donations are all spending the money on partying? Or is it just the brown skinned ones who do that?
I tend to agree that this was a little fishy myself, but the instant suspicion that anyone brown must be up to no good is a bit much.
Of course, in fairness I have to admit that the IRA were funded in great part via this exact means, but I should also point out they were/are pale blue not brown.
both bunches of terrorists if you ask me, israel, well the current form of israel, formed by a bunch of terrorists, against another terrorists, wish they both get sense in their silly little heads before they imflame a war
Doctor? wrote: So persons seeking charity donations are all spending the money on partying? Or is it just the brown skinned ones who do that?
Did I say anything about them being brown? I don't think the person telling the story even mentioned if they were brown or not.
Also, I didn't say that was where the money was most likely going. I said it's just as likely to go there as anywhere else, i.e. you can't have any idea where it's going because you don't really know who they were or their motives.
If someone comes up to me claiming to collect donations for a group I've never heard of, I'm going to be suspicious. I couldn't care less if they're black, white, brown, English, Spanish, Brazilian, Moslem, Hindu, Catholic, Southern Baptist, gay, straight, or transexual Sikhs.
Hezbollah were formed to do a job.
They did that job.
Er.
And now, they're getting above themselves. ![]()

Was it the word 'Palestine' which offended you, Liam?!
Er, or the word 'charity'?!

There sure are cunts on both sides.
I don't think this issue will be solved at all. Never.

Last time I stepped out the door this was a largely secular country, not "Christian". Perhaps I missed something?

that is right, but what do people say they are when they get asked about their religion. 3/4 here will probably put down christian in their census form here next week, even if they are lucky to visit a church once a year and haven't got a foggiest what Christianity is all about.
it is what people identify with, not what they actually are, so technically this is still a christian country no matter the actual reality. i think it is the same in all western countries.

Lebanon is largely moslem tho. Well there has been no accurate census in a dogs age but population projections indicate the moslem's have likely surpassed catholics as a percentage of the population
That said, the money is probably to fund Hezbollah anyway so good on you for not donating. The UK govt has turned a blind eye to the Hezbollah within its borders. Maybe this current war will force your govt to kick them the fuck out already
lebanon is roughly 60% muslim and 40% christian (give or take a few). the bombings have united the two factions for the first time in decades. strange bedfellows considering they were trying to destroy one another in the early '80s.

Secular countries don't dictate the religion of their leaders. The president must be Catholic...and there's a certain number of moslems that have to in in different posts as well. Can't remember off the top of my head....I'm sure wikipedia has a breakdown

You've moved to Lebanon, Fradders?![]()
ok.. the figures on the news i saw were something like 50% Christian, 40% Moslem 10% assorted others. I'm sure that these figures were not set in stone.
What ever the figures are, its pretty much split down the middle.
I got approached off a couple of middle class scruffy, student twats in Durham yesterday asking to sign some shite left wing Palastine pro Muslim non-democratic organisation/charity.& support (ie: give cash) some refugee or other. When i replied NO I AM Pro-Jewish 7 right-wing(not anti-Muslim however) the stupid bint went into one. Daft cow. You would think i had just said i was in the NF or summat. Ah, my mistake. Still, just seen on the news that 54 civilians were killed by Israeli missiles today. Which is surely the statistic that counts, eh? Bombs generally aren't religous bigots last I heard.

Hope you ain't going to see the Primals on their next tour 'cos they've had pro-Palestinian groups handing out leaflets inside their gigs for at least the last decade....

No bombs are devices that maim people. Hezbollah sent over 90 of them yesterday too. Not really understanding your point there, Fradders.
