Anyone a fan of theirs? Have to say, think they just passed me by. Just a.n.other Manc band from 15 odd years ago.
Sadly, just read an obituary for their lead singer though. Tony Ogden. Died, aged 44.
Interestingly, apparently Noel Gallagher was originally gonna name Oasis 'Sons of the Stage' after one of their lyrics.
Like a Rainbow is a lovely song. Can't think of any others by them. That's really sad about the singer.

i used to think they was quite good, if a bit bonkers. they did some top tunes as well,shes like a rainbow was a stones cover i think? but still good. according to ledgend the band went to bits after the guitarist had his hair cut short? lol. and ogden just up and retired,shame hes died.:\ohwell:

I have a few of their records. Best single was 'The Storm', and 'Sons of the Stage' was good too.
They got overhyped by the NME too quickly and rush released the album 'Quality Street'; half if it was excellent, the other half 'filler'. I think they were dropped by their label soon after. They were labelled part of a 'kitsch movement' at the time.
I saw them live twice co-headlining with St Etienne at Norwich and the Astoria in London, and they used to have a giant clam shell on stage, inside which their keyboard player, MC Shells, used to plink the keys. Spinal-Tap esque mebbe.
If you can get 'The Storm' on cd single (B-side is 'She's a Rainbow'), then you are onto a winner.
Bit of a fan, I think Quality Street still stands up as a good album. They made some great music. I saw them at The Camden Palace. One of the best gigs I've ever been to. Unfortunately most of the audience was more interested in being spoon fed Nirvana by the NME. The d.j who came on after them got a better response wih repertoire of god awful grunge.

The Grid produced the bulk of Quality Street. Hannett's sole credit is for The Storm. Stupid NME!
My mate had all their stuff - I remember particularly liking the 10 minute epic "Blackpool Tower Suite"...

Got into them by way of Candy Flip, Beloved and *gasp* a recommend from a friend that if I liked Frazier Chorus I'd like them. I did, but I didn't feel it was connected to FC at all. Shame about Ogden, though. I did enjoy his voice.
