New Mondays Album - Will it be any good ?

The Happy Mondays are recording their first new album in almost 15 years, according to reports.

The Madchester legends are apparently working on a follow-up to "Yes Please", almost 15 years since the LP was released and the group disintegrated.

U2 and Bjork producer Howie B is reported to be mixing the currently untitled album, which has been produced by US hip hop figure Sunny Levine.

Speaking to the BBC yesterday, Howie B explained: "Sunny has done a fantastic job getting the best out of the band.

"Shaun is writing about what he's always written about, whatever's happening in his life really. His health, drugs, the weather. In fact there's a beautiful song about the weather that he's written and it's a classic."

He continued: "It's a mental project. It's really exciting, quite incredible. It's Shaun back on it. Shaun's a diamond. He's singing well, he's rapping well, his lyrics are just right on it."

"His language, which was always unique, has got even better. And he looks great. I wouldn't say he looks sexy, but he looks great."

The lyrics might be alright, but Shaun Ryder would be abysmal live! Entertaining though.

The live album they released last year was shite,they are one of them bands that should have stayed finished. They`ll never top Pills,Thrills & Bellyaches.

Dont know Al/i remember seeing it in HMV for about £23 on import thought,fuck that and went home to P2P it. The sound quality was 100% but it was a poor show. I`ll try and find a link...

The defintion of a "drug band" in the sense that without being 16 years old and off yer nut as I was back then there music is utter pish. Can't for the life of me understand why anyone's still even interested.

They were an ok band about 20 years ago, but at this point, no way. If every band decline over time, and a band start out middling, and how good do you think that band would be 15 years after their prime?

Al -dont buy it. I did- silly mistake & the dvd version. Always said i would never go see them again after Kilburn 92' show - but last autumn i gambled. Same gaff NO playing in Oct up ere'. I made the wrong mistake

What was that Big Top stuff that Ryder did a few years ago. Surprisingly good, given the depth of his problems at the time.

Got it at home somewhere - might dig it out.

It'll probably be pish, but i'll buy it anyhow.

Was never that mad on them years ago,I thought their remixes were better than their singles,but they've grown on me in recent years.BEST OF gets a regular play on my car CD player.

Yes Please offered the perfect end to the outrageous Happy Mondays story. It tanked and brought the band and the label down with it.

They had a good run at it, but the credits have already rolled. It's time to go home.

That said, it still boggles my mind how Shaun Ryder is still alive today.

anyone whose brain is not wrecked by acid / lsd / ketamine etc etc will be able to tell you it will be absolutely shite. they were a party, novelty band defining the madchester scene and as such very of their own time. I still blame them for the demise of factory records. Once bumped into Bez coming out of the Metropolitan pub in Didsbury just after it had been done up - Tosser.

i like the Mondays,and i hope the album will be a good one..
